Kane graduate student aids arts program

ERIE – Educators and student-teachers at Carpe Diem Academy in Erie will introduce a contemporary teaching method called Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) into their lesson plans in the spring.
Funded in part by a $5,000 ArtsErie grant, the progressive after-school program will integrate critical response in visual art, partnering with language and literacy.

Kersey home damaged on fire

KERSEY – An early morning fire on Sunday significantly damaged a house at 204 Dagus Mines Rd. in Kersey.
Elk Company 3 (Fox Township) and Fox Township Ambulance were dispatched at 5:03 a.m. and Elk Company 1 (Crystal Fire Department) followed at 5:20 a.m.

JAMES CITY – The Highland Township Board of Supervisors agreed Wednesday to challenge the issuance of a federal permit for a wastewater disposal well near James City.

KCH Heart Forum held on Wednesday Night

The Kane Community Hospital held a heart forum on Wednesday evening at the St. Callistus Roman Catholic Church Social Hall. Nearly two dozen people attended the free educational outreach program sponsored by KCH.

Commissioners back historic preservation plan

SMETHPORT – The preservation of historical artifacts is important to the McKean County Board of Commissioners.
Acting at their meeting Tuesday, Commissioners Joe DeMott and Al Pingie adopted a resolution to endorse the statewide Historic Preservation Plan for 2012-17. Commissioner Cliff Lane did not attend the meeting.

Kane man waives hearing on terror charges

A Kane man has waived his preliminary hearing in Kane District Court on charges of making terroristic threats.
William Frederick Davis, 27, of 1 South Elk Ave., Kane, is accused of  "pointing a knife with a 12-inch blade within inches of Ashley Fletcher's face while asking her if she wanted to die," court records show.

Dispute lingers on forest land assessments

SMETHPORT – A Smethport man is continuing to challenge the assessment of McKean County forest land in the state's "Clean and Green" program.
Jim Herzog, who owns forest land, made another presentation Tuesday at a meeting of the McKean County Board of Commissioners.

State representatives plan joint meeting in Kane

State Representatives Kathy Rapp (R-Warren) and Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) will hold a joint "town hall" meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Kane Senior Center at 100 Fraley St.
Under the new state legislature re-districting plan, Causer as of Dec. 1 will represent all of McKean County. He now represents only a portion of the county.

Fate of Kane police chief remains in limbo

The fate of Kane Police Chief Brian Hillard remains in limbo.
Hillard, 43, has been suspended without pay since early September after he was charged with two counts of falsifying state documents between February 2011 and last July in his role as a certified firearms instructor.

Charges against Hamlin official head to county court
