Walter B. "Ben" Ishman

Walter B. "Ben" Ishman, 79, of 12783 Route 948 in Highland, died Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 2011 in the emergency room of the Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 2, 1932 in Sackett, he was the son of Walter M. and Elma C. Rae Ishman. On May 5, 1951 in DeYoung, he married Sara A. Nelson, who survives.
Mr. Ishman owned and operated Ishman's Garage for many years, and also was a school bus contractor for the Kane Area School District for many years.

Larry Anderson Sr., 70, of 100 Saybrook Rd., Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Kane Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mark A. Swedenhjelm

Mark A. Swedenhjelm, 40, of 305 School St., East Kane, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Kane Community Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born Feb. 16, 1971, in Kane, he was a son of Darrell and Marsha Glans Swedenhjelm.
Mark was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church. After graduation from Kane High School, he attended Ohio Diesel Technical College for two years and received a degree in diesel mechanics. He had been employed by Highlander Energy where he did insulation and scaffold- building work.

Betty M. Tramontana

Betty M. Tramontana, 87 passed away peacefully on Monday April 18, 2011 in Olympia, Wash. after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 18, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Sheffield United Methodist Church with internment to follow in the Sheffield Cemetery.
Betty was born on May 31,1923 to PJ and Edna Finerty in Sheffield. Betty was married for 30 years to the late Joseph A. Tramontana. She had one son, Chuck, of Olympia, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Donna; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Joyce Fees

Joyce Fees, 97, a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane, died there Sunday evening, April 17, 2011.
Born March 16, 1914 in Kane, she was the daughter of Alfred and Emma Becker Cartwright. On Dec. 31, 1934 in Kane, she married Fred K. Fees, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Fees was a homemaker.
Surviving are three daughters, Jane Mayer of Webster, N.Y., Susan Keck of Sarasota, Fla. and Mary Hall of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Ann Johnson of Kane; a brother, Kenneth Cartwright of Sheffield; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Freda Francelia Brush Carlson

Mrs. Freda Francelia Brush Carlson, 85, passed into the next life Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Kane Community Hospital.
She was born April 4, 1926 in Kinzua to the late Roy and Arvilla Miller Brush. A lifelong area resident, Freda moved to Sheffield from Kinzua and later to Ludlow where she resided most of her life.
She enjoyed reading, puzzle books, “watching the birds,” and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She also babysat for two grandsons, Adam and Zach, for many years.

Carmella M. Tigani

Carmella M. Tigani, 95, of 7453 Highland Rd., died Saturday morning, April 16, 2011, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born March 21, 1916, in Kane, she was a daughter of Giuseppe P. and Giuseppa Costanzo Russo. On Jan. 22, 1944, in Kane, she married Giuseppe (Joseph) Tigani who preceded her in death.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Tigani had been employed by Stackpole Carbon Company and had also worked at the Chestnut Street Elementary School cafeteria.
She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and belonged to the Kane Lodge #751 Sons of Italy.

Dennis “Keith” Nowalk

Dennis “Keith” Nowalk, 76, of 1514 Pennsylvania Ave. E, Warren, and formerly of Kane, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Warren Manor.
He was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Kane, the son of the late Ralph C. and Hilda Sederquist Nowalk.
Mr. Nowalk had worked at the A & P in Kane and Johnsonburg and later at Pellegrino’s in Warren. He belonged to the Kane V.F.W. and was a past member of the Kane Lions Club and the Kane V.F.D.
Surviving are two brothers, Frederick Nowalk of Warren and Cleon Nowalk of Kane; and several cousins and nephews.

Eugenia M. "Genie" Thompson

Eugenia M. "Genie" Thompson, 81, of 420 Park Ave., in Kane died Sunday morning at her residence after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 11, 1930 in Kane, she was the daughter of J. Walter and Natalie Kempf Carlson. On May 12, 1951 in Kane she married Norman L. Thompson, who survives.
After she graduated from Bryant and Stratton College, she worked for the American Red Cross in Harrisburg and later was the office manager for Kane Decorating.

Rickey Anthony Antonuccio

Rickey Anthony Antonuccio, 55, of Beach Grove Rd., Ridgway, passed away, April 4, 2011, at the Hershey Medical Center. He was born Oct. 23, 1955, in Ridgway, the son of Nicholas P. Antonuccio, who survives and the late Edna L. Dilley Antonuccio. He is survived by his wife, Regina Singleton. He resided in Ridgway for most of his life. He attended Ridgway Area High School. He enjoyed billards, construction, 4-wheeling, cards, story telling, being around kids, repairing and painting cars. He was an automotive mechanic for 40 years.
