Mabel Mellander, 96, a resident of the Lutheran Home at Kane, and formerly of Mt. Jewett, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1915, in Johnsonburg, she was a daughter of Edward G. and Anne Hinchliffe Rippon.Â On Jan. 1, 1939, in Brockway, she married Paul Mellander who preceded her in death.
Before retirement she had worked at Stackpole Carbon. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
John W. Stewart, 93, of 541 Hacker St., Kane, died early Thursday morning, Aug. 11, 2011 at his residence.
Born Nov. 12, 1917 in Kane, he was the son of Walter A. and Dora D. Smith Stewart.Â On April 12, 1946 in East Kane, he married Astrid M. Swanson, who died in 1998.
Mr. Stewart served in the U.S. Air Corps during WWII, reaching the rank of sergeant.Â Later, he was a set-up man at Holgate Toy Co., then a shipping clerk at Stackpole Corp., both in Kane, then was manager of the Kane Manor.
Kathryn Mary Hasney, 79, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Lantz Corners, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, following an extended illness.
Born July 31, 1932, in Halsey, she was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Rindosh Morgan. On July 18, 1959, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mount Jewett, she married Francis "Fetch" Hasney, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2002. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Joseph Morgan, and a sister, Anne Morgan.
Donald J. Gadley of 6645 County Route 31, East Hill, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital, from injuries sustained in a work related accident at Dresser-Rand in Wellsville.
Don was born Aug. 25, 1965 in Kane and was a son of Purcie S. and Elizabeth LaBarr Gadley Jr. On Aug. 24, 1997, in Friendship, N.Y., he married his wife of 13 years, Mary M. Kay, who survives him.
Don was a 1983 graduate of Kane High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He drove a truck and worked construction, and most recently worked for about 20 years at Dresser-Rand in Wellsville.
George E. Petrisek, 75, of Genesee, formerly of Port Allegany, Pa., died unexpectedly at home on Aug. 5, 2011.Â
Mary â€śMarylouâ€ť Louise Dreher,Â 86, Rothschild, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at North Central Health Care, Wausau.
Marylou was born March 21, 1925 in Kane, to the late Eugene and Gertrude (Wallace) Ward.
She attended the University of Indiana and graduated with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1952. While in Indianapolis she met her husband, Eldridge (Al) Dreher. The two were married on Feb. 8, 1952. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Edward L. Johnson, 89, of 32 Sleepy Hollow Rd., died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Sergeant, he was a son of Fred and Nora (Johnson) Johnson.Â On Dec. 5, 1953, in Kane, he married Patricia Bouch who survives.
Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during World War II.Â Before his retirement, he was employed by Stackpole.
He was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed working in the garden, walking in the woods and polka music.Â He also played the accordion and several other instruments.
Larry B. Beimel, 64, of Pottstown, and formerly of St. Marys, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011.
He was born on March 5, 1947 in St. Marys, a son of the late Romaine "Shorty" and Mary Chere Beimel.
Larry attended St. Marys schools and had lived in Pottstown for the past several years.Â Years ago he had worked at
Pure Carbon Company.Â He enjoyed playing his guitar.Â
Tyler Hemperley Robinson, 25, of 9656 Rte. 6, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, near his residence.
Born Nov. 9, 1985, in Monroe, La., he was a son ofÂ Barry T. and Candy Naron Robinson.
He was in his second semester at Triangle Tech in DuBois which he was attending for welding.
Richard Dale Peterson, 79, of 1 Chestnut St., Mt. Jewett, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at his residence.
Born Dec. 23, 1931, in Kane, he was a son of Carl and Alberta Field Peterson.Â On Sept. 20, 1958, in Mt. Jewett, he married Patricia Cesario who survives.
Previously, he had been employed by Howeâ€™s Leather in Mt. Jewett.
