October 26th
Robert D. McClain, 88, of the Lutheran Home at Kane Residential Care Center, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011Â at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1923 in Corsica, he was the son of Thomas E. and Mabel Richert McClain. On July 23, 1945 in Ridgway, he married Audrey Burton, who died in 2004.
Mr. McClain was a sheet metalist for Elliot Co. in Ridgway for over 20 years, and later for Waterbury Farrell in Cheshire, Conn.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Kane and had been a member of the BPO Elks #329, in Kane.
Victoria M. Fitzgerald died Oct. 21, 2011.
She was the beloved wife of the late Roger A. Fitzgerald; devoted mother of Robert (Donna) Fitzgerald; loving grandmother of Sean (Mary) Fitzgerald and Deborah (Michael) Cammarano; great-grandmother of Matthew, Christopher and Michael; sister of Charlotte Lyte, Walter (Linda) Kellar and the late Josephine Kellar, Helen Rolfe, Jennifer Burns and Leona Kellar.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
October 24th
William C. “Bill” McMichael, 55, died at the scene of a car-pedestrian accident on Oct. 13 in Chambersburg.
Bill was born on April 3, 1956 in Kane and was a 1975 graduate of Kane High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Grace McMichael, formerly of Kane. He is survived by his children Jesse and Emily McMichael of Shippensburg, and Aaron McMichael of Chambersburg.
He is also survived by a brother, James McMichael of Fairfax, Va.; and three sisters, Karen DeShong and Susan Frirsz of Chambersburg, and Kathleen McMichael of Polk.
October 23rd
George J. Grisham, 91, formerly of Bradford, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at the Blair House Senior Living Community, Macon, Ga.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1920, in Machias, N.Y., the son of the late Francis and Ruth Bellman Grisham.
On Jan. 25, 1944 he married Betty M. Bolles, who preceded him in death on March 2, 2007.
He was a 1940 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.
He was employed by the former A & P grocery store, Bradford as a Produce Manager for 42 years.
October 21st
Michael J. Kennedy, formerly of Kane, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, surrounded by loved ones in his Florida home.
He was born on March 31, 1951, in Sewickley, and was a 1969 graduate of Moon Township High School. Mike attended Clarion University and Ohio Northern University and practiced law before being elected the Mageisterial District Judge in Kane. In 2010, Mike and his wife, Gina, retired to Placida, Fla. He was a wonderful husband, adoring father, and loyal friend and family member. Mike will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
October 17th
Leanna L. Penhollow, 80, formerly of 424 Winsor St. and 110 W. Third St. in Jamestown, N.Y., died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, in WCA Hospital.
An area resident for almost 40 years, she was born July 28, 1931 in Sergeant, a daughter of the late Paul and Leota Smith McMahon.
She had attended Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
October 16th
Nellie J. Himes, 87, of 207 Irishtown Road, Kersey, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at her residence.
She was born April 4, 1924, in Kane, daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary Merle Brown Hepler.
On May 27, 1942, in Kane, she married Harry A. Himes Sr., who survives.
She had lived in the area for the past 69 years and attended Kane schools. She attended the Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, canning and baking, reading her Bible and spending time with her family.
Shirlee M. Salberg, 84, of 1939 Montmorenci Rd., Ridgway, died unexpectedly at her residence on Friday.
She was born Dec. 13, 1926 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Mader) Markert. She married Ray H. Salberg on June 18, 1949, and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2002.
October 12th
Norman S. Boschert, 86, of 104 Whiterock Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born June 21, 1925, in Dagus Mines, he was the son of Florence Weidow Mandilas. On Oct. 31, 1953, in Johnsonburg, he married June E. Bryington who preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2011.
Mr. Boschert was a veteran of World War II serving in the 6th Army in the Philippines with the Bushmasters and the Alamo Scouts. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
He had worked at Hanley Brick Company for many years and later for Affiliated Industries from which he retired.
October 11th
John B. Hall, Sr., 66, of Knoxdale passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.
He is the son of the late Alice (Brady) and Lawrence Ignatius Hall. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Joseph Hall; brother Lawrence I. Hall, Jr.; and sisters Sara Criswell and Mary Kosmaczewski.
John is survived by his wife of 12 years, Patricia L. (Chubon) Hall of Harrisburg; son, John Brady Hall Jr.of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter Mary Grace Hall of Cheyenne, Wyo.; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Olive Hall of Maryland.
