February 16th
Robert Scott Dunkle, 47, of 217 Dawson St., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at his residence.
Born Oct. 11, 1964, in Bucks County, he was a son of Richard Dunkle and Barbara Stanley Dunkle Miller. He was married to Connie Snyder who survives.
Before becoming disabled over 12 years ago, he had been a sawmill operator.
Robert belonged to the First Church of God and was a former member of both the Kane Eagles and the Kane Moose Lodge.
February 15th
Kathleen V. Frank, 93, of Water Street, Johnsonburg, and recently of Kane, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at the Lutheran Home of Kane following a short illness. She was born May 6, 1918 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late John and Emma Amacher Lynch. On Jan. 28, 1936, she married Frederick C. Frank, who preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1991.
She lived all her life on Water Street, Johnsonburg, until the past several years in Kane.
February 13th
Joyce M. Wallin, 85, formerly of Sheffield and Ludlow, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Warren Manor.
Born June 10, 1926, in Wildcat, she was a daughter of Olgar and Elna Olson Wallin.
Ms. Wallin was a member of Moriah Lutheran Church in Ludlow and also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Wildcat Park Auxiliary.
She was the owner/operator of Joyce’s Beauty Shop and at different times had worked at New Process in Warren and Grabowski’s in Sheffield.
February 12th
Ned J. Kopp, 80, of 313 Welsh St., Kane, formerly of St. Marys, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1931 in St. Marys, he was the son of the late William C. and Caroline E. Weber Kopp. On June 6, 1964 in Emporium, he married Marilyn M. Haviland, who died July 4, 2011.
Ned was a mechanic for Airco Speer in St. Marys for many years. He served in the U.S. Army after WWII and during the Korean War, and was part of the St. Marys Serviceman's Detail.
February 6th
Isabelle Marie Nicklas, 91, a resident of the Warren Manor Nursing Home, Warren, formerly of Kane, died Sunday morning, Feb. 5, 2012 after an extended illness.
She was born May 16, 1920 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Tiburcio and Louisa M. Cardona. She was employed as a housemaid for private residences. She was of the Catholic faith.
Isabelle is survived by numerous cousins.
February 2nd
Curtis L. Carlson, 86, of 1319 East Main St., Bradford, passed away, Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at The Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born July 2, 1925, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Wallace and Olive (Alexis) Carlson. He was a 1943 graduate of Bradford High School.
On March 6, 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Central Europe, Rhineland, ROME-ARNO and Southern France with the Battery A 747th Field Artillery Battalion, he was honorably discharged on Dec. 23, 1945.
On May 3, 1947 in Bradford he married Margaret L. (Washburn) Carlson who survives.
February 1st
Carl E. Lantz, 89, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane after a lengthy but courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
Born in Kane on Oct. 1, 1922, he was a son of the late Victor R. and Bess Waterson Lantz. He was married to Evelyn “Susie” Lantz, his wife of 59 years, who survives.
In January of 1943, Carl entered the Army and served in China as part of the China Defensive during World War II; he was also involved with the “Flying Tigers”.
James L. “Jim” Gibson, 75, of 336 Reynolds St., Kane and 4414 Twin Lakes Dr., Melbourne, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at his Florida residence.
Born Oct. 7, 1936, in Kane, he was a son of the late Raymond F. and Gladys Johnson Gibson. On Sept. 28, 1984, in Kane, he married Linda Albright who survives.
Jim, a graduate of Kane High School class of 1954, served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
Before retirement, he was the postmaster at the Kane Post Office. He later drove the ATA bus and also volunteered at Kane Community Hospital and Wuesthoff Medical Center in Melbourne.
Vonnie Alexander Frederick, 68, of Portsmouth, Va., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 in her residence.
She was born in Norfolk, Va. to the late Mildred and George E. Alexander Sr. She retired from Portsmouth Public Schools and was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Frederick; two daughters, Robin Beagle Haga and husband Mark, and Lisa Oakley and husband Chuck; two sons, Wayne Beagle and wife Wanda, and Mark A. Beagle and wife Tiffany; a brother, George E. Alexander Jr; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
January 30th
Helen E. (Ernette) Hart, 92 of Smethport, formerly of Jeannette, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, in the Sena-Kean Manor.
She was born March 29, 1919, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late August and Ellen (O'Mullen) Ernette. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, in Mt. Jewett, and its Rosary Society. Prior to being a full time homemaker, Helen was employed by the Elliott Company.
