Janet Rose Shelander, age 74, of Duffy Apartments, Johnsonburg, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born June 17, 1939 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Edward and Stella (Kinny) Shelander.
She attended Johnsonburg schools and worked at Stackpole Carbon of Johnsonburg and St. Marys, Elcam, and the Deli of Johnsonburg Market Basket/Jubilee.
Marlys Perry, 68, of Kane, passed away on June 28, 2013, of cancer.Â
She was born Jan. 14, 1945, and grew up in California, where she graduated from La Sierra Acadamy in 1963.Â
Her greatest joy in life was raising her children. She also enjoyed her career as a traveling nurse. Marlys loved Jesus Christ, was eager to be the person she felt Jesus wanted her to be, and enjoyed sharing her Seventh Day Adventist beliefs with others. She loved travel, the beach, fishing trips, friends, family, and watching her grandchildren participate in sports.Â
Gary L. Dean, 61, of Virginia Avenue, James City, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at UPMC Hamot.
Born March 13, 1952, in Kane, he was a son of John and Margaret Oyler Dean.
Mr. Dean had previously worked for Bethlehem Steel, JH Williams Tool Company and various lumber mills.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of James City, are a son Timothy Dean of Smethport; three brothers, John (Mary) Dean of James City, Mike (Celeste) Dean of Buffalo, N.Y., and Bruce (Linda) Dean of Kane.Â Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Connie J. Walker, 74, of 13 Merrick St., Hazel Hurst, went home to meet the Lord she loved while surrounded by her loving family at UPMC Hamot on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at UPMC Hamot.
Born Aug. 4, 1938, in Kane,Â she was a daughter ofÂ the late John and Avis Nogar Keesler.
ConnieÂ was employed by the Smethport School DistrictÂ for 30 years as a custodian.Â She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mt. Jewett and was an avid bingo player and loved to spend time with her family.
Surviving are two sons, James Walker, "her loving caretaker"Â and John (Deb) Walker, both of Hazel Hurst.
Jacqueline N. "Cookie" Nelson, 65, of 381 South Settlement Rd., Kane, a longtime resident of Warren, died Friday morning, Aug. 2, 2013 at the Warren ManorÂ a dayÂ after beingÂ admitted.
Born Sept. 9, 1947 in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of Jack M. and Lois E. Hancock Walter.Â On March 31, 2012 in Kiantone, N.Y., she married James P. Nelson, who survives.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kane, and enjoyed making crafts.

Robin Leigh Sluga, 60, of New Port Richey, Fla. died Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. Mary's Home of Erie in Erie.Â
She was born in Kane on July 11, 1953, a daughter of the late Charlie and Ruth Sluga of Mt. Jewett.
Margaret L. Carlson, 84, formerly of 1319 East Main St., passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Palliative Care Hospice in Akron, N.Y. Friends are invited to attend graveside services at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 in Lebanon Cemetery in Kanesholm. Daniel J. Bires, 76, of 9 N. Hillside Ave., Ludlow, died on Friday morning, July 26, 2013 in the emergency room at Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 15, 1937, in Ludlow, he was a son of the late John and Mary Steffan Bires.Â On June 28, 1956, he married Arlene "Cubby" Irwin who preceded him in death in 2010.
Rose Johnson, 74, of 17 North Oak St., Kane, died early Thursday morning, July 25, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1938 in Marienville, she was the daughter of Charles R. and Effie M. Barr Sharrow. On Aug. 29, 1958 in Crown, she married Virgil A. Johnson, who survives.
A homemaker, Rose did housekeeping for folks in the area.Â She was a lifetime member of the McKean County Fire Police and belonged to the Kane Fire Dept. Auxiliary.Â SheÂ enjoyed puzzles and embroidery.
