Lawrence Dan Andersen, 80, of Chesterton, Ind., died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health.
He was born Aug. 20, 1933 in Kane, son of the late Thorkild and Ruth Fridley Andersen.
On May 21, 1966, he married Mary Johnson Andersen who survives in Chesterton.
Lawrence belonged to the American Society of Civil Engineers and was licensed in several states. He was also member of the Professional Engineers and an endowment member of the NRA. He was an Army veteran, serving his country proudly. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Mona Joye Swanson Smith, 84, of Plano, Texas, died Thursday, June 26, 2014.
Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Mt. Jewett, she was a daughter of the late Iona Murray Swanson and George Julius Swanson.
She attended and graduated from Hamlin Township School where she met her future husband in third grade. Mona participated in the Glee Club, band and was on the year book staff.
On Sept. 8, 1951 at the home of her parents, Mona married William Carl Smith. They began their 22 years in the military traveling to Germany, Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Minnesota.
Howard Ellis Johnson, 84, a resident of the Suites at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, died Friday, June 27, 2014 after a brief illness.
Howard was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Warren, the son of the late Ellis and the late Margaret Hill Johnson.
David W. â€śSamâ€ť Earle, 47, of Austin, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born June 6, 1967 in Coudersport, he was the son of Richard D. and Geraldine Skrouse Earle. On Jan. 22, 1994 in Coudersport, he married Jeannette Holmes Earle who survives.
He was employed by GKN Sinter Metals in Emporium for 11 years until getting ill in 2009. He was a member of the Austin Vets Club for several years.
Doris L. Mishic, 88, formerly of Lamont and the New Thomson House, Kane, died Friday afternoon, June 20, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Sept. 10, 1925 in Lamont, she was the daughter of Axel L. and Augusta Asp Carlson. On Nov. 15, 1945, she married Matthew Mishic, who died in 2001.
A homemaker, Doris belonged to the Emmanuel Mission Church in Kane, and often held bible studies in her apartment.
Surviving are a daughter, Christine Rhodes of Brookville; two sons, Tim Mishic of Kane and Michael Mishic of Midland, Mich.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Trina Dubowick Shuart, 71, of South Harwich, Mass., died Monday, June 16, 2014 surrounded by her husband and three sons.
Trina was the daughter of Ted and Sophie (Wilochka) Dubowick and was born in the Bronx, N.Y. She spent her childhood in Fair Lawn, N.J. and was a 1961 graduate of Fair Lawn High School. She and her family enjoyed spending summers at Lake Hopatcong (N.J.) with friends and cousins. For several years she worked for Bell Telephone of New Jersey.
Gertrude H. "Gertie" McGuire, 91, of 145 Elk Ave., Kane, died early Wednesday evening, June 18, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1922 in Kane, she was the daughter of Giles and Marie Anderson Conklin. On Aug. 31, 1943 in Kane, she married James P. McGuire, who died in 1976.
Gertie was a waitress at the former Arcade Restaurant in the 1960s, and later worked at Stackpole for many years, both in Kane.
Theodore "Fred" Holmes, 67, of 206 Park Ave.,Â died suddenly on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born May 24, 1947 in Kane, he was a son of the late Richard W. and Alma Berggren Holmes. On May 17, 1969, in Kane, he married Mary Kay Cappello who survives.
Mr. Holmes was the longtime owner and operator of the Family Drive-In Theater. He was a member of the Kane Fish & Game Club
Margaret E. "Peg" Cunningham, 83, of 3165 Rte. 219, Kane, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Feb. 8, 1931, in Pine Run, she was a daughter ofÂ the late Claude and Hazel Transue Housler. On April 29, 1988, she married Thomas E. Cunningham who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cunningham had worked at Stackpole for 25 years. She later was a cook at Kane Community Hospital from which she retired. She was a charter member of the Hamlin Township Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary.
As a pastime she was an avid bingo player, golfer, and loved to fish.
Jean D. Saff, 90, of Bethlehem, formerly of Jamestown, N.Y. and Kane, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
The wife of Kenneth H. Saff Sr., they were married 63 years on Oct. 7.
Jean was born in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Fred and Clara (Schultz) Springer.
Jean graduated from Liberty High School in 1941 and played in the LHS Band. She graduated from St. Lukeâ€™s School of Nursing in 1949.
