Thomas A. Anderson

September 7, 2014

Thomas A. Anderson, 78, a former resident of 345 Kinzua Ave. in Kane, died of lung cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014.
Mr. Anderson was schooled at Clay Street School and the Kane Area High School. Upon graduation he immediately entered the U.S. Navy and stayed 22 years, retiring as a Chief Yeoman. His military career found him at locations on the U.S. east coast and around the Mediterranean Sea.

Patricia Halloran

Patricia Halloran, 83, of Salamanca, N.Y., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 at the Blossom Hill Care Center, Huntsburg, Ohio.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, N.Y.

Lynda M. Pontzer

September 4, 2014

Lynda M. Pontzer, 67, of 500 Spruce St., St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
She was born Jan. 26, 1947, a daughter of the late Edward and Orma Nicklas Pontzer.
Lynda graduated from ECCHS and received her bachelor's degree from Mercyhurst University. She then received two master's degrees from the University of Arizona, one in art history and another in English. In her early years, she taught in Denmark, Scotland and Iran. She often substituted in our local schools, and greatly enjoyed teaching children to paint.

Ronald J. Smith, Jr.

Ronald J. Smith, Jr., 54, of 6 Wetmore Trail near Kane, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born June 18, 1960 in Brookville, he was the son of Ronald J. and Patricia R. Riggs Smith. On June 2, 1979 in Kane, he married Lisa A. Bauerle, who survives.

September 2nd

Clarence W. Eckert

September 2, 2014

Clarence W. "Duke" Eckert, 89, of 104 Forest Avenue, died Monday (Sept. 1, 2014) at Sena Kean Manor.
Born Oct. 16, 1924, in Elk County, he was a son of  the late Anthony and Julia Brendel Eckert. On May 26, 1950, in Kane, he married Rose Trumbull who survives.
"Duke" served with the U.S. Air Corps during World War II.
He was a Millwright and had worked at various times for HBSA Industries in Brooklyn, N.Y., the McKean County Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Affiliated Industries in Kane, J.R. Kilmer Wholesale Groceries and St. Marys Sewer Pipe Company in St. Marys.

Eric B. Horn

September 1, 2014

Eric B. Horn, 51, of Highland died Sunday morning at UPMC Hamot.  He was born on Feb. 24, 1963 in Smethport, PA, the son of Keith and Phyllis (Siegel) Horn.

Mr. Horn was an avid football player and fan.  He succeeded in making Big 30 both his junior and senior year playing for Kane High School.  Later, he became a loyal Green Bay Packers fan.
 

Wilda Genevieve Dixon

Wilda Genevieve Dixon, 93, of Kane, formerly of Smethport, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday (Sept. 1, 2014). She was a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane.
She was born March 12, 1921 in Owls Nest, a daughter of Walter M. and Elma Rea Ishman.  Wilda married Donald Leroy Dixon, who survives, in Kane on Aug. 23, 1947. They moved to Smethport in 1947 and began their ministry at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

Joann Meckley

Joann Meckley, 87, formerly of 121 Oak Street, Kane, died Thursday morning, Aug. 28, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Aug. 31, 1926 in Wetmore, near Kane, she was the daughter of Stephen H. and Ruby F. Winkler Jerman. On Aug. 26, 1950 in Kane, she married D. Neal Meckley, who survives.
A homemaker and mother, Joann was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Lynn (Tony) Avenali of Kane and a son, Richard Meckley of Kane; a granddaughter, Jennifer Meckley and her beloved cat, Lady.

Robert A. Chapman

Robert A. Chapman, 47, of 120 Fraley Street, Kane, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Aug. 28, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital after being stricken at home.
Born Sept. 13, 1966 in Kane, he was the son of Robert L. and Carol A. Transue Chapman.  On July 9, 2005 in Kane, he married Traci L. Haight, who survives.
Bob was a self-employed electrician, and enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing.

Larry Keyser

Larry Keyser, 65. of 387 Division Street, Mt. Jewett, died Sunday (Aug. 24, 2014) at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1949, in Kane, he was a son of  Clayton and Dolores Anderson Edinger.  On February 12, 1971, in Mt. Jewett, he married Julie Swanson who survives.
Mr. Keyser had been employed at Stackpole. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father;  two aunts, Ginger Stidd of Erie and Bette Lou Macnamara of Annapolis, MD; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
