Richard P. "Rich" Bartels, 76, of 614 North Fraley St., Kane, formerly of School Street in East Kane, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Dec. 10, 1937 in Dravosburg, he was the son of Paul A. and Bernice M. Forsythe Bartels. On March 18, 1960 in Fort Payne, Ala., he married Jean A. Lamb, who survives.
Rich was a road supervisor for Hamilton Township for several years, and later was, among other things, a mechanic for Wetmore Township for 14 years, both near Kane.
Alice K. Coleman, 92, formerly of 508 Hacker St., died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Dec. 31, 1921, in Maple Heights, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Irvin A. and Flora Jeffords Keyser. On July 31, 1954, she married Martin R. Coleman who preceded her in death.
Alice was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a lifelong member of both the Phoenix Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star in Smethport and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Mary Ann Bilicic, 80, of 413 Maple St., St. Marys, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at Pinecrest Manor.
She was born May 22, 1934 in Kane, daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Hargart) Collin.
On Sept. 1, 1962, at Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys, she married George W. Bilicic Sr., who survives.
Donald Chester McClelland, 78, of 130 Greeves St., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.
Born Jan. 22, 1936, in Dayton, he was a son of the late William "Chet" and Doris Frances Wilson McClelland.
Before his retirement, Mr. McClelland was employed as a head sawyer at Maljovec Lumber in Kane.
He was a member of both the Kane VFW Lodge #1132 and the Kane Eagles Club Aerie # 307. He also was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Donald C. McClelland, 78, of 130 Greeves St., died Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, 2014 at UPMC-Hamot. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home in Kane. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. A full obituary will appear in tomorrow's paper.
Phyllis A. Sloan, 74, of 127 Vine St., Marienville, and Osteen, Fla., died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys.
Born Jan. 2, 1940, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Alta Parsons Ross. On May 25, 2002, in Tionesta, she married Gilbert "Gib" Sloan who survives.
Phyllis was a nurse and assistant director of nursing at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Steve (Lynn) Ingraham of Buffalo; a daughter, Cathy Fragale of Amherst, N.Y.; and two granddaughters, Casey Ingraham and Christina Ingraham.
Katherine M. "Kay" Hanson, 88, formerly of Wetmore Road, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born June 4, 1926, in Wetmore Township, she was a daughter of Martin and Eva Kralick Merlock. On Jan. 24, 1953, in Mt. Jewett, she married Paul R. Hanson who preceded her in death in 1998.
Kay was a homemaker and also owned and operated the Colonial Inn after the death of her sister, Anne Pearson. She also helped in the rectory at St. Callistus Church and previously at St. Patrick's rectory in Wellington, Ohio.
Surviving are a daughter and several nieces and nephews.
Josephine Brothers, 81, of 125 Yarnell St., Kane, and Sarasota, Fla., died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.
Born Sept. 10, 1932, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Rose Bifano Nicolazzo. On April 25, 1952, in Kane, she married James Brothers who preceded her in death.
Before retirement, Josephine had worked for Syroco Industries of Syracuse, N.Y. and had also been a bus driver for theÂ school district of Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Jack D. Barber, 84, of Erie, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at Manchester Commons following a brief illness.
He was born in Kane on Sept. 19, 1929, a son of the late Walter Hartwin and Ida Isabell Goodwin Barber.
Jack was raised in Burning Well, graduated from Mt. Jewett High School and then went on to the General Motors Institute in Detroit graduating in 1948.
Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
