Elizabeth Ann âBethâ McConnell Sallack, 90, beloved wife of Myles Sallack for more than 60 years, died peacefully at her home in Florence, S.C., on July 24, 2014.
Born June 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ruth Johnson McConnell. She and Myles moved to South Carolina in 1994 after residing in Johnsonburg and Kane for more than 40 years.
A 1942 graduate of Kane High School, Beth graduated from Mt. Aloysius College and Montefiore Hospitalâs Med Tech Program. She worked as a lab technician at Tokyo Army Hospital during the Korean War.
Carol J. Benicky, 75, of Belle Vernon died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in Thorpes Personal Care Home.
Born in Kane on Feb. 16, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Doris (Hutchens) Gustafson.
Carol retired from Corning Glass and also worked at Dickâs Sporting Goods Warehouse.
She is survived by her two brothers, Robert Gustafson of Kane, and Richard Gustafson of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Janice Crew of Venice, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Benicky Jr.; and a brother, Thomas Gustafson.
Carlton Lawrence Olson, 85, a resident of Rouse Warren County Home and formerly of Ludlow, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 26, 1929 in Kane, son of the late Lawrence âTigeâand Evelyn Nelson Olson. At the age of 16, Carlton joined the Merchant Marines as a Able Seaman, serving in Foreign waters. Carlton was a heavy equipment operator with International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union 66.
He was a member of Moriah Lutheran Church, Ludlow. He was a 32 degree mason with Kane Lodge #566, F & A.M. and a National Rifle Association member.
Steven P. "Gooner" Snyder, 57, of 105 Pine St., died Sunday at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1956 in DuBois, the son of the late Charles H. Snyder Sr. and Doris J (Holt) Snyder, who survives.
Mr. Snyder was self employed as a handyman for many years.Â He was a member of the BPOEÂ Lodge #329 in Kane.
Evelyn McMurray, 87, of Concord, N.C., died at her home after a serious illness on Saturday, July 12, 2014
She was born Feb. 18, 1927 in Charleroi. She resided in Kane for 33 years before moving to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for 17 years. She moved to North Carolina from the beach eight years ago. She was a homemaker and talented seamstress and cook.
Evelyn was the daughter of the deceased Ferdinand and Clara Bethem. She was preceded in death by her husband, James McMurray to whom she was married for 64 years and her son, James McMurray.
Ronald E. Benson, 77, of 409 Welsh St., Kane, died July 14, 2014 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport, where he had been a recent resident.
Born Dec. 27, 1936 in Sheffield, he was the son of Carl H. and Kate E. Newburg Benson. On Oct. 27, 1984 in Kane, he married Pearl R. "Sis" Gerhart, who survives.
RonÂ was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked at Kane Gas, Light & Heating Co. for 17 years, then the U.S. Forest ServiceÂ near Marshburg, the McKean Co. Landfill and later at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Kane, each for several years.
Ronald E. Benson, 77, of 409 Welsh St., Kane, died Monday morning, July 14, 2014 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport. Arrangements, in the care of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete and will be announced.

Douglas Jon Ewing, 52, of Palmyra, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 30, 2014.
He was born Friday, Feb. 2, 1962 in Kane, to the late Ronald Paul and Jean Marie (Magnuson) Ewing. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jan (Parana) Ewing.
Gloria A. Swanson, 87, formerly of 2 Reigel Rd., Kane, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born July 6, 1927 in Kane, she was the daughter of Louis and Sarah Heasley Gerhart.Â On July 30, 1949 in Clarion, she married Stanley L. Swanson, who died in 2009.
Gloria had worked at the Resistor Plant at Stackpole Corp. in Kane for 25 years. Later, she worked for and became manager of Widman's for several years, and also worked at Roma Gardens, both in Kane.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kane where she belonged to the King's Daughters.
Martha J. Moore, 89, formerly of Johnsonburg and Kane, died Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014 at Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility in Ridgway.
Born Oct. 15, 1924 in Fairmont, W. Va., she was the daughter of Joseph and Vergie Cross Young. On Nov. 12, 1942 in Belington, W. Va., she married Dale E. Moore, who died in 1976.
Martha had been a clerk at the former Market Basket, then drove school bus, bothÂ in Johnsonburg.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness near Kane.
