Joseph C. Adams, 71, 209 Market St., Warren, formerly of Kane, died Saturday evening, May 10, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. Arrangements, in care of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home in Kane, are incomplete and will be announced.
Virgil C. Nelson, 81, of 15 Church St. in Ludlow, died Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 22, 1932 in Kane, he was the son of Frank E. and Hannah C. Freeburg Nelson. On June 25, 1955 in Kane, he married Carol âJeanâ Scott, who survives.
Mr. Nelson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, discharged as corporal.
He was a banker for 38 years for the former Warren National Bank in Sheffield, then Kane, and finally Warren, retiring as comptroller.

The family of George Kelley will be receiving friends from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor of the Mt. Jewett United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial, with military honors accorded, will follow at McKean Memorial Park.
Mr. Kelley died Nov. 25, 2013.
Gerald W. Nelson (Gerry), 86, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at his home in Durham, N.C.
The son of Elna and Axel Nelson, Gerry was born March 8, 1928. One of 13 children, he spent his early years in Kane. He married Nancy Johnson, his wife for 53 years, in September 1948. The couple lived and worked in several cities in western New York and Pennsylvania before settling in Pittsburgh, where they made home for their three children. Gerry worked for several companies but always described himself as a salesman, sharing many stories of his days on the road.
Betty Mae Johnson, 91, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane after a short illness.
Born Sept. 12, 1922 in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Charles Monroe and Mabel Elizabeth Peterson Eliason. On Dec. 20, 1940, she married Daniel Lehman who died Feb. 5, 1942. She was widowed at 19 with a one-week old infant daughter. On April 6, 1945, she married Gunnar Arne Johnson who preceded her in death on May 4, 1987.
Richard A. "Dick" Cherry, 83, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital, with his loving daughter Karen by his side.Â
Dick was born May 2, 1930, in Johnsonburg, the son of the late Patsy and Theresa (Steinbach) Cherry.
Dick married the love of his life, Pearl Bean, on Sept. 27, 1951. She survives.
Mary Ann Bennett, 80, of 2 Greeves St., Kane, formerly of DeYoung, died unexpectedly Monday evening, April 28, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 17, 1933 in Muzette, Forest County, she was the daughter of Lias and Gertrude Finlaw Irwin. She had been married to Samuel E. "Bud" Maze, who died in 1960. On July 31, 1965 in Kane, she married William Bennett, who survives.
Mary Ann had worked at Stackpole in Kane for over 26 years.Â
Ethel Mae Chappo, 86, of Kane, died Monday, April 28, 2014.
She was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Carnegie, a daughter of Trevor George Davis and Gertrude Blanche Stevens.
Mrs. Chappo worked in the laundry service at the Washington Hospital for 18 years.Â She loved her dogs and enjoyed ceramics, word search books, and playing cards.Â She looked forward to shopping and eating meals out with her family.Â
Mrs. Chappo was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kane and a former member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington.
Deceased is her first husband, Roy Winters.
