Karen Rothrock

September 18, 2013

Karen Ann Rothrock, 69, of Ludlow and Pittsburgh, died unexpectedly at Kane Community Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.
Born Sept. 7, 1944, she was a daughter of  the late James G. and Donna Jones Rothrock, who had made Ludlow their second home when Karen was a child.
Prior to retiring, Karen was a well-known and respected independent contractor to public television for development of documentaries.

William H. Blankenship

William Howard Blankenship, 79, of Ludlow, died on Monday morning, Sept. 16, 2013, at the Warren General Hospital with his loving family singing praises by his side.
William, known to many as Bill, was born Sept. 18, 1933, to the late Orla and Carrie Morton Blankenship in Gauley Bridge, W. Va. He married his wife, Barbara Bragg, in 1952, in Gauley Bridge where the two of them began their life together. The couple made their move to Kinzua in 1959, then to Ludlow, where they finished raising their large family of 16.

William Blankenship, 79, of 11 1/2 Main St., Ludlow, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 16, 2013, at the Warren General Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc.

Christine Ann Slewinski Blackall

Christine Ann Slewinski Blackall, 44, formerly of Kane and Greensburg, died unexpectedly on Aug. 23, 2013 in Tavares, Fla.
Born July 9, 1969 in Camp Lejeune, N.C., she was the daughter of Kathy G. (Slewinski) Muisiner and John P. Slewinski. After graduating from Kane Area High School in 1987, she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, and in 2002, married Darryl L. Blackall, who survives.

Katharine "Kay" Ellen Bush

Katharine "Kay" Ellen Bush, 80, of 89 School St., Kane, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at her residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1933, in Wilcox, she was a daughter of  the late George and Thora Amend Lehman. In 1953, in Kane, she married Chester "Chet" N. Bush who preceded her in death.

Ronald B. Harlan

Ronald B. Harlan, 78, of 11 Lucky Ln., died Thursday morning, Sept. 12, 2013 at his residence.
Born June 28, 1935 in Bradford, he was the son of Roy S. and Agnes M. Kruise Harlan. On Aug. 27, 1955 in Olean, N.Y., he married Jane L. Groves, who survives.
He worked in welding and maintenance for various companies in the area, including CeraMag in Kane and IPSCO near Sheffield. Earlier, he was a woodcutter for area logging businesses.

Connie L. Bigley

Connie L. Bigley, 66, of 130 Greeves St., Kane, and formerly of Duncansville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at UPMC Altoona.
Born April 25, 1947, in Duncansville, she was a daughter of Cyril and Cecelia  Decker Harker. On Aug. 30, 1985, in Duncansville, she married Thomas L.Bigley, who died in 2006.

Connie L. Bigley, 66, of 130 Greeves St., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at UPMC Altoona.

George L. McCloskey

September 3, 2013

George L. McCloskey, 83, of 159 W. Main St., Mt. Jewett, passed away early Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at Sena-Kean Manor.
Born April 16, 1930, in Snow Shoe, he was a son of the late Lester and Olive McCracken McCloskey. On Oct. 3, 1952, in Hazel Hurst, he married Marilyn Smith who preceded him in death. For most of his life, Mr. McCloskey was a logger and retired from Penn Mountain Logging in 2005 at the age of 75. His favorite pastime was repairing small engines.

Jack D. Safreed

Jack D. Safreed, 87, of 14 Oberg Ave., Mt. Jewett, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Oct. 27, 1925, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of John and Laura Best Safreed. On Aug. 13, 1983, at Lake Tahoe, he married Patricia Dinsmore who survives.
Mr. Safreed was employed by  the Bechtel Company and was a millwright by trade. His work consisted mainly of building nuclear power plants.
