Trina Dubowick Shuart, 71, of South Harwich, Mass., died Monday, June 16, 2014 surrounded by her husband and three sons.
Trina was the daughter of Ted and Sophie (Wilochka) Dubowick and was born in the Bronx, N.Y. She spent her childhood in Fair Lawn, N.J. and was a 1961 graduate of Fair Lawn High School. She and her family enjoyed spending summers at Lake Hopatcong (N.J.) with friends and cousins. For several years she worked for Bell Telephone of New Jersey.
Gertrude H. "Gertie" McGuire, 91, of 145 Elk Ave., Kane, died early Wednesday evening, June 18, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1922 in Kane, she was the daughter of Giles and Marie Anderson Conklin. On Aug. 31, 1943 in Kane, she married James P. McGuire, who died in 1976.
Gertie was a waitress at the former Arcade Restaurant in the 1960s, and later worked at Stackpole for many years, both in Kane.
Theodore "Fred" Holmes, 67, of 206 Park Ave.,Â died suddenly on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born May 24, 1947 in Kane, he was a son of the late Richard W. and Alma Berggren Holmes. On May 17, 1969, in Kane, he married Mary Kay Cappello who survives.
Mr. Holmes was the longtime owner and operator of the Family Drive-In Theater. He was a member of the Kane Fish & Game Club
Margaret E. "Peg" Cunningham, 83, of 3165 Rte. 219, Kane, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Feb. 8, 1931, in Pine Run, she was a daughter ofÂ the late Claude and Hazel Transue Housler. On April 29, 1988, she married Thomas E. Cunningham who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cunningham had worked at Stackpole for 25 years. She later was a cook at Kane Community Hospital from which she retired. She was a charter member of the Hamlin Township Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary.
As a pastime she was an avid bingo player, golfer, and loved to fish.
Jean D. Saff, 90, of Bethlehem, formerly of Jamestown, N.Y. and Kane, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
The wife of Kenneth H. Saff Sr., they were married 63 years on Oct. 7.
Jean was born in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Fred and Clara (Schultz) Springer.
Jean graduated from Liberty High School in 1941 and played in the LHS Band. She graduated from St. Lukeâ€™s School of Nursing in 1949.
Kathleen J. "Kathy" Tanner, 66, of 108 Biddle St., Kane, died early Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born March 6, 1948 in Marienville, she was the daughter of Lewis H. and Olivia R. Greene Riggs. On Aug. 30, 1969 in Las Vegas, she married Chris E. Tanner, who died in 1997.
Kathy had been an Avon representative, a housekeeper and caregiver, then enrolled in college to become an accountant and tax preparer. She also owned and operated Tanner's Tea Room Bed & Breakfast in James City for 16 years, where she hosted many tea parties.
Willetta M. "Billie" McKee, 71, of 431 Poplar St., died early Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she had recently resided.
She was born on July 16, 1942 in Corry, the daughter of the late Willis Kinney and Ruth Wells, who survives.
Mrs. McKee had worked at Solar Electric in Warren and also at Erie Plastics in Corry.
Douglas Jon Ewing, 52, of Palmyra, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 30, 2014.
He was born Friday, Feb. 2, 1962 in Kane to the late Ronald Paul and Jean Marie (Magnuson) Ewing. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jan (Parana) Ewing.
James M. Milliron, 86, of Stonehedge Circle, Brookville, formerly of Marienville, died Monday, May 20, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society, Lake Forest Village, Denton, Texas.
He was born April 2, 1928, in Hazelhurst, the son of Harry Vern Milliron and Ruby Nogar. On Jan. 21, 1949, in Kane, he married the former Valjean Maze, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2010.
Mr. Milliron was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Joyce Marie Simpson, 56, West Stubs Road, Corsica, died Saturday, May 24, 2014.
Born Oct. 11, 1957, in Brookville, she was a daughter of the late James Wolfgang and of Vivian Silvis Wolfgang, who survives and lives in Kane.
She was married to Marlyn C. â€śStubâ€ť Simpson in Corsica March 26, 1983. He survives.
She worked as a hairdresser for 38 years and was owner/operator of Simpsonâ€™s Beauty Shop in Corsica.
She was a member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica and also of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, family and friends.
