Virginia "Jane" Hedlund, 92, of 147 Gates Hollow, Bradford, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at The Pavilion at BRMC.
Born Oct. 9, 1919, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late George and Oda Mae (Anchors) Wingard.
On Aug. 17, 1943 in Allegany, she married Perry F. Hedlund, Jr. who died on Oct. 21, 2006.
She was a 1936 graduate of Kane High School.
She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Evangelical Church.
She had been employed at Corning Glass Company for over 29 1/2 years.
Ruth J. Parker, age 83, of Olean Rd., Chaffee, died Saturday March 24, 2012 in Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y.
She was born March 30, 1928 in Dahoga, a daughter of the late Charles G. and Agnes C. (nee Larson) Johnson.Â She was a homemaker and member of Hope Lutheran Church, Arcade, N.Y.Â She enjoyed knitting and loved the time spent with her family.
Her husband Earl F. Parker whom she married Aug. 6, 1949 in Buffalo died in 1988.
Dolores "Dorie" Mays, 72, of 23 Woodpile Drive, Westline, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born March 28, 1939, in DuBois, she was a daughter of Stanley and Mary Meholick Sunealitis. She was married to David Mays who preceded her in death.
Joseph S. Sivak, 80, of 320 Haines St., passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane where he was a recent resident.
Born April 24, 1931, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was a son of Mathias and Anna Rohlicek Sivak. On June 30, 1956, in Kane, he married Carol Zimmerman who preceded him in death.
He had worked at Holgate before entering the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return, he again was employed by Holgate, later by Stackpole and finally worked for Kane Magnetics until his retirement.
Frances E. Hammer, 94, formerly of Greeves Street, Kane, died Thursday afternoon, March 15, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Â Â Born April 4, 1917 in McKinley Station, she was the daughter of Earl and Nina M. Quinn Conners.Â She had been married to J. Clair Caldwell, and, after his death, to Donald R. Hammer, who also preceded her in death.
Â Â Frances had been self employed as a beautician, and was a member of the Kane Country Club and the Elks Ladies Auxiliary in Kane.
Robert E. Smart (Bob), age 58, a Stamford resident, passed away suddenly on March 12, 2012.
He was born on June 30, 1953, in Kane, the son of the late Robert Smart and Elizabeth (Betty) McKenna Smart. He is survived by his beloved son Nicholas R. Smart, sister Mary Smart Toth (Dave) of Hertford, N.C., sister-in-law Sheryl Smart of Edinboro, and his former wife Susan Valenzano Smart of Stamford. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. He is predeceased by his brother James Smart.Â
E. Louise "Mickey" Campbell, 87, of 12 Water St. in Ludlow, died early Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she recently resided.
Born March 23, 1924 in Hublersburg, she was the daughter of Robert M. and Annie Mae Yarnell McCloskey.Â On April 14, 1946 in Lock Haven, she married William D. Campbell, who died Dec. 30, 1983.Â She and her husband lived in Morrison from 1946 until 1964, when they relocated to Ludlow due to the construction of the Kinzua Dam.
Frederick "Fritz" A. Zampogna, 96, ofÂ 314 Kearney St., Kane, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his residence.Â Â Â Â
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Westline, he was a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Costerella Zampogna.Â On April 14, 1945, in Kane, he married Marjorie M. Bressler who survives.Â Â
Fritz was a loving husband and father who enjoyed being around his family. He loved to cook, especially spaghetti and meat balls on Sundays.Â Additionally,Â he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and canning and eating hot peppers.Â Â Â
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and son David Pysnik, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Monday March 12.
James C. Nelson, 81, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Iris K. (Leas) Nelson, and the late Margery Nelson. He was born Oct. 21, 1930 in Kane, the son of the late Emil S. and Mabelle (Thomas) Nelson.
