Kenneth D. Kempf

April 15, 2012

Kenneth D. Kempf, 85, a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane, formerly of Park Avenue Ext. in Kane, died Friday evening, April 13, 2012 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born May 4, 1926 in Kane, he was the son of Daniel and Twila Newhouse Kempf. On Dec. 26, 1948 in Kane, he married Carol E. Sandburg, who survives.

Quinten Carl Johnson

Quinten Carl Johnson passed away on Saturday, April 14 at the age of 94. 
He was a lifelong resident of Hazel Hurst where he was born on Sept. 28, 1919, and spent the last several years at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport.
Quinten was the son of Henning and Blanch Johnson and brother of Paul, all of whom preceded him in death. On Dec. 14, 1940, he married Betty Timmerman to whom he was married for nearly 70 years until her death in December, 2010.

Sally L. Mandilas

April 13, 2012

Sally L. Mandilas, 77, formerly of Bradford and 2 Greeves St., Kane,  passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born June 24, 1934, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late  Lascos and Florence Weidow Mandilas.
Sally was a graduate of Bradford High School and had worked at Producers Bank and National Fuel Gas in Bradford. After her retirement, she moved to Kane.
Surviving are a niece, Peggy Rolick of Kane; two nephews, Rodney Boschert of Kane and Brian Boschert of Russell. Several great nieces and great nephews and cousins also survive.

Robert E. Menteer

Robert E. Menteer, 83, of Green Bay passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Blackstone. He was born in Nebraska, Pa. on May 7, 1928 to the later Robert Elias and Marguerite Catlin Menteer. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran having served 21 years including deployment during WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

George E. Matis

George E. Matis, 57, of 785 Wetmore Road, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 9, 2012, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 6, 1954, in Kane, he was a son of the late George and Leverna Larson Matis.
George was a dairy farmer for many years and sold  milk to several different producers in the area. He was also head sawyer for Kane Hardwood where he had been employed for 35 years.

Charles R. “Bob” Morrison

Charles R. “Bob” Morrison, age 82, a resident of Berkeley Square Retirement Village, Hamilton, Ohio, since 1997, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
He was born in Butler on Dec. 15, 1929, the son of Charles Richey Morrison (pharmacist) and Mildred McFadden Morrison (school teacher). Bob graduated in 1947 from Butler High School and continued his education at Grove City College, Grove City, where he received his BS Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1951. On May 7, 1954, in Kane, Bob married Alice A. Anderson.

Theresa Lindsay

Theresa Lindsay, 49, of 505 Little Neck Rd., Savannah, Ga., and formerly of Kane, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012, at her residence.
Born Oct. 29, 1962, in St. Marys, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Derma Murray Pennington. She was married to Christopher Lindsay who survives.
Theresa had been employed as a cook for the former Ranch Restaurant and also had worked at Snyder Nursing Home in Marienville.
Her grandchildren were the highlights of her life.

David N. Weiland, 74, of Butler passed away peacefully Sunday morning at his family camp in Kane.

He was born in Butler on September 7, 1937, the youngest son of the late Joseph Bernard and Florence
Marie Eyth.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1955 to 1959 and was employed at AK Steel Corp. for 36
years. He retired in 1996 and spent much of his time in Kane. He was skilled at carpentry, a true jack of
all trades, and loved a good project. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved playing horseshoes, and spending

Anna McManigle

Anna McManigle, 69, of Smethport, formerly of Brookville, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Sena Kean Manor at Smethport.
Born Aug. 28, 1942 in Marienville, she was the daughter of the late Merle and Beulah Eckman Hetrick. On Feb. 10, 1980 in Brookville, she married James M. McManigle Sr., who died on March 3, 2006.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brookville.
