Ione E. Housler, 85, formerly of Lantz Corners, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born July 3, 1926, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Judith Carlson Olson. She was married to Charles M. Housler who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Housler had worked as a cashier at the former Market Basket and later was in charge of the Ben Franklin section of the store.
She was a member of the Mt. Jewett American Legion Post 574 auxiliary.Â Additionally, she was very active in the 4 H Club.
Alice R. Caldwell, 99, formerly of 19 Spring St., Kane, died Monday afternoon, March 12, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born June 3, 1912 in Kane, she was the daughter of Edward J. and Beata Johnson Anderson. On Oct. 22, 1930 in Smethport, she married Smiley M. Caldwell, who died in 1984.
Mrs. Caldwell was a member of The Presbyterian Church and the Mountain Grange #1307, both in Kane, as well as the Kane Food Pantry, where she served as secretary.Â She was a member of the Queen Elizabeth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Clarksburg, W.Va.,Â sinceÂ 1943.
Franklin â€śFrankâ€ť Potter Schreiber, age 81, of Erie passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at UPMC Hamot.
He was born in Kane on Nov. 16, 1930, son of the late Harry and Mary (Mayme) Potter Schreiber.
He graduated from Kane High School and served six years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. Frank worked for Kendall Refining in Bradford, Beckwith Machinery in Erie and United Refining in Warren. Following his retirement he worked for Family First Sports Park.
Betty Lundberg, 86, formerly of Kane, passed away Friday (March 9, 2012) at the Warren Manor where she resided.
Â Â Â Â Born March 4, 1926, in Ridgway, she was a daughter of Wayne and Bernice Walker Weirich.Â On July 6, 1946, in Kane, she married Paul Lundberg who preceded her in death.
Â Â Â Â Betty was a tax collector for Wetmore Township for sixteen years. She also was a member of the former Altar Rosary Society, the Kane Fire Department Auxiliary and a former Girl Scout leader.
Dorothy Jean Ann Johnson, 84, died Friday March 11, 2012 in Lakeland , FL, following recent surgery.
Born August 16, 1927 in Kane, Jean Ann was the daughter of Olga Augusta Sieger and James Raymond Lydie Dugan Sieger. She moved from Kane to Lakeland, FL in 2010.
Jean Ann graduated from Kane High School in 1945 and from Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She worked at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, The Summit Hospital in Kane, and the Kane Community Hospital, before becoming a Pennsylvania Department of Health Nurse, for 18 years, prior to retirement in 1996.
Joseph J. â€śArkyâ€ť Caramboni, 90, of 132 Lincoln St., Kane, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at his residence.
Born Oct. 11, 1921, in James City, he was a son of Nazzareno and Anna Fontanelli Caramboni. On June 29, 1946, at St. Callistus Catholic Church, he married Marion Dooher who preceded him in death.
A graduate of James City High School class of 1940, Arky was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and also belonged to the Elks Lodge #329.
He was a lead man and foreman at Kane Screens, retiring in 1987.
Nora Lynn Johnson Sovik, 61, of Baltimore, Md., died Feb. 29, 2012, at Catonsville Commons under the care of Gilchrist Hospice Care after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 27, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Ruth L. and Donald H. Johnson of Kane.
She was married to Karl Sovik of Baltimore for 20 years. Nora was employed as a bank teller, at The House of Siam Restaurant, and most recently at Shoppers Food Market in Catonsville.
Garold M. Oakes, 90, of 823 Wood St. (Route 6), Kane, died Friday morning, March 2, 2012 at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
Born Sept. 27, 1921 in Ridgway, he was the son of Sherman P. and Cecile E. Kinter Oakes.Â On Nov. 26, 1944 in Kane, he married Lorraine I. Swanson, who died Aug. 4, 2003.
Mr. OakesÂ owned Oakes Gas Company and was a gas and oil producer all of his life.
Curtis Lee Hayduk Sr., 74, of 569 Maple St., Kane, died early Saturday morning, March 3, 2012, at the Kane Community Hospital.
He was born on July 22, 1937 in Kane, the son of the late John and Marion (Ward) Hayduk.
Mr. Hayduk had been employed by Stackpole for 37 years until his retirement in 1999.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Nicoll Heart, Maria Jones, Terri Dowd and Jackie Reinard; three sons, Curtis Hayduk Jr., Jim Hayduk and Cole Hayduk; four sisters, Marjorie Duchi, Kathryn Fiscus, Pearl Taylor and Audrey Marshall; and two brothers, Gene Hayduk and Larry Hayduk.
Harriet Elizabeth Spilka, 86, passed away on March 3, 2012 at Warren Manor in the presence of her family.
She was born Jan. 13, 1926 in Edinboro to the late Grace and Harry Moffat. She was a graduate of Edinboro High School. Harriet retired from Groboski Industries in Sheffield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Moffat, and a sister, Helen Hanks.
