Nancy L. Farr, 74, of 160 East Ave., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Lutheran Home in Kane following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 14, 1938 in Ludlow, daughter of the late Anthony (Tony) and Fannie Visco Raymondo. She married George J. Farr on March 2, 1957; he survives.
She resided in the community for 55 years. She graduated from Kane High School in 1956. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, and loved homemaking and family life.
June M. Smith, 94, of 3193 Rte. 6, Kane, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born June 2, 1918, in Johnsonburg, she was a daughter of Alfred and Catherine "Kate" Sweeney Hinchliffe.Â On Sept. 24, 1938, in Johnsonburg, she married James S. Smith who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and a former member of St. Anne's Church in Wilcox and Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg.Â She also was a former member of the C.D. of A. in both Wilcox and Johnsonburg.
Bradley A. â€śChipâ€ť Lannen of 12 Poplar St., Mt. Jewett, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, in Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born Sept. 3, 1958 in Bradford, he was the son of Richard G. and Donna Kay Thornton Lannen.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His unwavering devotion to the community of Mt. Jewett will be his legacy.
William L. "Bill" Gillespie, 78, of 824 JoJo Road, Kane, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, July 8, 2012 in the Emergency Room of the Kane Community Hospital.
Â Â Born June 15, 1934 in Coontown, he was the son of Frank A. and Reba A. Griffin Gillespie.Â On October 27, 1962 in New Bethlehem, he married Helen "Bonnie" Minich, who survives.
Â Â Mr. Gillespie had been an oil field worker in the area, then worked for James Cowan Excavating in Kane.Â Later, he worked for National Fuel in Lamont, retiring in 1992.
Â Â He was active in the Highlander Christian Camp near Kane for many years.Â
George A. Skok, 58, of 16 N. Elk Avenue, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born October 7, 1953, in Kane, he was a son of the late Niccola Skok and Rose White Hannold. On August 15, 1981, in Kane, he married Bonne Burford, who survives.
George was a former member of the Kane V.F.D. and the Kane Fire Police. He was a member and past vice president of the local union at Kane Magnetics where he worked for over 30 years. He later became the assistant manager at Kwik Fill in Kane. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Alyce M. Avenali, 73, of 614 N. Fraley St., passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born Sept. 4, 1938, in Marienville, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Dorothy Landess McClellan.Â On April 26, 1958, in Marienville, she married John Avenali who preceded her in death.
Alyce, a homemaker, mother and grandmother, was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church.
Alice M. Hall, 81, of 130 Greeves St., Kane, formerly of West Kane, died Friday evening, June 29, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie.
Born Aug. 28, 1930 in Erie, she was the daughter of Robert P. and Gertrude F. McCartney Clancey.Â On Jan. 6, 1951 in Cumberland, Md., she married Richard C. Hall, who died in 1966.
She had worked at the Kane Shirt Factory, the Bird Cage, Scutella's Cleaners and the VFW, allÂ in Kane, and was an Avon Lady.Â She then worked in the Kane Quality Markets deli for over twenty years.
Mary Jane (Bridge) Hanson, 90, died peacefully at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio, on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
She had moved to the Toledo, Ohio area several years ago to be closer to her son, Richard L. Hanson, and his wife, Gail.
Born Dec. 7, 1921 in Kane, Mary Jane was the daughter of Lester and Ellen (McMahon) Bridge. The family lived in Clermont. On Sept. 7, 1940, in Smethport, she married Laverne E. Hanson. They lived together in Ormsby for over 65 years.
Ted Frase Corbett, 63, of Timmonsville, S.C., formerly of Kane and Warren, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, S.C.
Born March 26, 1949 in Kane, he was the son of James and Miriam Frase Corbett.Â
Methodist by faith, Mr. Corbett grew up in Kane, then moved to Warren where he worked for Penelec until the 1990s, when he moved to South Carolina.
He was a self-employed mechanic and carpenter; and bought and sold cars, and enjoyed restoring cars.
Kathryn E. Martin, age 75, of 22 East Main St. Mt. Jewett, died Thursday morning, June 21, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following a short illness.
