Lloyd R. McAllen

Lloyd R. McAllen, 92, formerly of Lantz Corners, then Central Towers in Kane, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2011, at the Bradford Manor.
Born June 17, 1919 in Kane, he was the son of Daniel W. and Ruth N. Becker McAllen. On Feb. 28, 1948, he married Dolores  A. "Dee" Mitsch, who survives.
After graduating from Kane Area Schools in 1938, Mr. McAllen served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific-Philippine Liberation, and was awarded five medals and the Purple Heart.

Irvin D. ”Cutter” Strawcutter

Irvin D. ”Cutter” Strawcutter of 4258 Niles Hill Rd., Wellsville, N.Y. passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Cuba Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
Mr. Strawcutter was born Nov. 28, 1935 in Brookville, Pa., the son of Ray Edward and Evelyn McManigle Strawcutter. On March 8, 2009 in Cuba, N.Y., he married the former Sharon Lounsberry who survives.
Cutter was a graduate of Kane High School, class of 1955. After graduation he served in the Army as a Ranger for two years. He then worked for National Fuel Gas as a Field Supervisor in the Regulator Dept. for 35 years retiring in 1997.

Irving D. ”Cutter” Strawcutter

Irving D. ”Cutter” Strawcutter of 4258 Niles Hill Rd., Wellsville, N.Y. passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Cuba Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

Lois Sluga

 Lois Sluga, 85, of 256 Lindholm Rd., passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2011, at her residence.
Born Nov. 21, 1926, in Mt. Jewett, she was a daughter of Algot and Emma Smith Paulson. On Jan. 3, 1946, in Mt. Jewett, she married Edgar Sluga who survives.
Mrs. Sluga was employed by Stackpole Carbon Company, from which she retired, and was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Mt. Jewett American Legion Auxiliary. She had been a board member and volunteer for many years at the Mt. Jewett Memorial Library and also was a volunteer with the Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival for many years.

Kenneth T. Hannold

Kenneth T. Hannold, 84, of 188 School St., passed away at his home on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011.
Born Feb. 6, 1927, in Kane, he was a son of Roland and Hattie Gadley Hannold. On June 8, 1956, in Ludlow, he married Mary Jo Beckwith who survives.
Mr. Hannold worked as a painter and paperhanger with his partner, Beanie Gustafson. He also had worked for Bentz Furniture and later for Holgate from which he retired.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and belonged to the American Legion Post # 250 and the V.F. W. Lodge #1132.

Edwin V. “Win” Apel Jr.

Edwin V. “Win” Apel Jr., 62, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and formerly of Boise, Idaho, and Berkeley Heights, N.J., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Health after a year-long bout with his brain tumor.
Win was born Sept. 10, 1949 in Oil City, the son of Edwin V. Apel, Sr. and Marian L. Myers Apel. On Oct. 27, 1973 in Kane, he married Mary Loretta “Lorrie” Marconi.
In 1967, he graduated valedictorian of Cranberry High School. He then graduated from Yale University, with a B.A. in Philosophy in 1972. In 1977, he graduated from the University of Idaho School of Law.

James R. Stewart

November 29, 2011

James R. Stewart passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011.
He was born in Kane on April 21, 1922. Farmville became his home after transferring here with Stackpole in 1966. He worked there until his retirement in 1982.
He was a WWII and Korean War veteran, a member of VFW Post # 7059, lover of nature, his family and his country.

James W. McMurray

James W. McMurray, 86, of Concord, N.C., passed away after a serious illness, Nov. 26, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center, in Charlotte, N.C.
He was born Oct. 24,1925, in Bridgeville, and resided in Kane for 33 years, and moved to North Carolina from Myrtle Beach, S.C., five years ago. Mr. McMurray was the son of the deceased James and Clara McMurray.
He was an employee of West Penn Power Company in Kane, as an electrician for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. McMurray served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord, N.C.

Gerald N. "Jerry" Kilmer

Gerald N. "Jerry" Kilmer, 66, of 220 Haines St., Kane, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 28, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys.
Born Aug. 12, 1945 in Kane, he was the son of William and Sis Croyle Kilmer. 
After serving as an Air Policeman in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, Mr. Kilmer worked for National Fuel for nearly 27 years. He was a member of the American Legion / VFW in Mt. Jewett as well as the Wilcox Sportsman's Club.
