Vincent F. â€śJimâ€ť Varisano, 85, of 621 Dawson St., died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at his residence.
Born Dec. 16, 1926, in Kane, he was a son of the late Peter and Angeline Ferraro Varisano.
Jim, a graduate of Kane High School class of 1944,Â served in the U.S. ArmyÂ during World War II, with service in Japan. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Kane, retiring in 1986 after 31 years of service.Â
Nancy A. Turner, 73, formerly of Central Towers, Kane, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2012, at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport, where she resided for the pastÂ several months.
Born March 1, 1938 in Hazel Hurst, she was the daughter of David H. and Lena M. Dippo Hudson.Â On Oct. 28, 1958 in Newport News, Va., she married Clifton Turner, who died in 1996.
Nancy worked at the Food Lion grocery store in Grafton, Va. for many years.Â She belonged to the Kane Eagles Club Auxiliary.
Ralph C. Swanson, beloved father of Susan Pence, Stacey Kuhn, and John Swanson; grandfather of seven; great-grandfather of three; dear brother of Lois Williams, Don Swanson, and the late Joanne Dyne, passed peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at age 79. Elizabeth â€śBettyâ€ť I. Grolemund, 88, of 109 Pennsylvania Ave., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.
Born Oct. 12, 1923, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Harry C. and Elvira Nelson Bush.Â On Feb. 5, 1949, in Kane, she married John Grolemund who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Grolemund had worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the the former Jacobus-Poklar Motors.Â
Diane L. Jackson, 63, a resident of the Lutheran Home at Kane, passed awayÂ Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born June 23, 1948, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Milan and Virginia McCaskey Ford.
Mrs. Jackson worked for a time at Stackpole.Â She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with them.
Surviving are a sister, Nancy Haight, of Kane; two brothers-in-law, Paul Yarnall of Ludlow and Ronald Royer of Kane; and her nieces and nephews.
Dorscella â€śDottieâ€ť Ryan-Mossing, 83, of Swanton, Ohio, and formerly of Greensburg and Mt. Jewett, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Florida Hospital in DeLand, Fla.
Born March 16, 1928, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Lucille Larson Martinson.
A graduate of Hazel Hurst High School in 1945, she graduated from Buffalo Childrenâ€™s Hospital as an R.N. and worked at various nursing positions, retiring as Director of the American Red Cross of Westmoreland County.Â
Evelyn L. Strawcutter, 96, formerly of 109 Clay St. in Kane, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2012 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born May 16, 1915 in Brookville, she was the daughter of Harvey H. and Florence V. Farrell McManigle.Â On Feb. 5, 1933, she married Ray E. Strawcutter, who died in 1954.
Mrs. Strawcutter was a dietary manager at the Kane Community Hospital for over 30 years.Â
She was a member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane, the Order of the Eastern Star, and belonged to the Mountain Grange #1307 in Kane for over fifty years.Â She enjoyed playing cards with her friends.
James F. Perry, 74, formerly a longtime Kane resident, passed away peacefully in his Doraville, Ga. home on Dec. 28, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Perry was an Air Force veteran and retired as the Plant Manager of Southern Tea in Atlanta, Ga. He is survived by his second wife, Judy Camp Perry of Doraville, sons James P. Perry of Kane, Jon R. Perry (Joni) of Pittsburgh and daughter Jodi E. Perry of Manassas, Va., three stepchildren, one brother, three sisters and 16 grandchildren.
Dorothy J. Hurlburt, 82, of 7 Bridge St., Mt. Jewett, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 9, 1929, in Tioga County, she was a daughter of Peter F. and Cora Ann Slocum Jones. On Dec. 18, 1944, in Whitesville, N.Y., she married Andrew J. Hurlburt who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hurlburt, a homemaker, is survived by three daughters, Juanita (Frankie) Cornelius of Mt. Jewett, Norma (William) Way of Irvine and Pat Camatti in California; a son, Duane Hurlburt of Andover, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Jones of Hornell, N.Y.
Violet â€śVeeâ€ť M. Lamberson, 98, of New Haven Court, 100 Freedom Way, Greensburg, and formerly of 100 Hemlock Ave., Kane, died Jan. 2, 2012, at her residence.
Born Sept. 6, 1913, in Ellicottville, N.Y., she was a daughter of Frank H. and Kittie Lovelace Kifer. She was married at St. Callistus Catholic Church to George J. Lamberson who preceded her in death in 1997.
