Dale D. Vanderpool, 65 formerly of Kane, died Jan. 6, 2011 in West Reading, where he had been a resident since 2002.
He was the husband of Catherine A. (Smith) Vanderpool, of Findlay, Ohio, whom he married Feb. 13, 1987.
Born March 26, 1945 in Sayre, he was a son of the late Lamont B. and Catherine M. (Wells) Vanderpool.
Dale was a member of Kane United Methodist Church. He was a loving father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family camping, hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Dale also liked hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer.
Willis E. "Bill" Simon, age 82, of 501 High St., Johnsonburg, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1928, in Johnsonburg, son of Russell and Helen Myers Simon. On Aug. 7, 1948, he married Lucy Paladino in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg; she survives.
A 1946 Johnsonburg Area High School graduate, he received a degree in instrumentation from the International Correspondence School.
Arthur Osmer, 73, of 215 Birch St., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born Jan. 30, 1937, in Kane, he was a son of Arthur and Helen Gerarge Osmer.Â On Sept. 5, 2009, in Kane he married Nancy DeCecchis who survives.
Mr. Osmer had been employed by Coca Cola in Bradford for 25 years.Â He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Coudersport.
He served in the U.S. Marines.
Margaret J. Shadman, 87, of 6689 Route 321, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at her residence.
Born April 27, 1923, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Pearl McCauley Cartwright.Â On Dec. 7, 1944, in Emporium, sheÂ marriedÂ Winfield Shadman who preceded her in death in 2008.
Mrs. Shadman had worked at various positions as a bookkeeper and was also employed by the Kane Republican for about seven years.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Judy) Shadman of Lancaster, Calif.; a daughter, Susanne(Joe) Zampogna of Kane;Â five grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
Roxann Stull, age 78, of Palermo, N.J., lost her battle against cancer on Jan. 2, 2011. She was comfortable at home and surrounded by family.
Roxann was born in New Cumberland on Nov. 20, 1932. She was the daughter of William S. and Freda F. Eppley. She was notably fun and lively from childhood. After graduating Carlisle High School where she participated in tennis, band, and cheerleading, Roxann attended Penn State Ogontz Center (now Penn State Abington).

Marion F. Self, 63, of Gainesville, Fla., formally of Mt. Jewett, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at the Haven Hospice House in Gainesville after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born July 20, 1947 in Kane, a daughter to Bruce W. and Francis Holliday Slater.
She attended Smethport Jr./Sr. High School.
She loved to crochet gifts for family and friends and to sew custom garments and accessories. She also loved to watch Nancy Grace (CNN).
She was preceded in death by three brothers; Richard B. Slater, Marvin H. Slater, and Joseph Zwack.
Mildred M. Hedberg, age 102, formerly of 204 Adams Ave. in Ridgway, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Lutheran Home at Kane. She was born July 28, 1908 in Reynoldsville, daughter of the late Nelson and Susan (White) Smith. She married Allen W. Hedberg on Dec. 23, 1955, he preceded her in death in 1978. She had resided in Ridgway since 1959 and was a former Penfield and Blawnox resident. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgway, a member of the Church Women's Group (WELCA) and a member of the VIA.
Michael E. Lubold, 72, formerly of Kane, died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at his residence in Arlington, Texas.
He was born in Kane on January 14, 1938, the son of John and Angeline Riccardi Lubold.Â
After attending Kane Area High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for eight years.Â He then returned to Arlington and was employed by Affiliated Foods.
He enjoyed traveling, motorcycles and the martial arts.
Mrs. Elizabeth B. Cochran, 78, of Ludlow, passed into the next life at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at Jamison Hospital, New Castle, following a one month illness.
A lifelong area resident, Elizabeth was born Feb. 27, 1932 in Muzett to the late Lloyd and Luella Irwin.
She worked various jobs including the shirt factory in Warren, insurance agent, and helped run the store in Ludlow. Elizabeth was able to travel throughout the world which she loved. A member of Mission Covenant Church, Ludlow, she had recently moved to Pulaski to help raise her grandson.
Evert Eugene Swanson, 87, formerly of 345 E. Hemlock St., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born January 18, 1923, in West Kane, he was a son of the late Oscar Albert and Ruth Peterson Swanson.Â On Dec. 13, 1947, in Kane, he married Hazel Cochran who preceded him in death.
Mr. Swanson served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant.Â During his service, he took part in 35 combat missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters.
