Mrs. Linda M. Kraft, 61, passed into the next life at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 following a brief illness at her residence in Russell.
She was born June 13, 1949 in Kane to the late Lester L. and Mildred I. Helper Hillard.
A lifelong area resident, Linda worked at Blair Corporation for 20 years and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, and was a wonderful seamstress. She loved her dog Freddie and two cats Cuddles and Bear.
Helen Swanson, 88, of 2 Greeves St., died Tuesday morning, May 17, 2011 at the Lutheran Home at Kane, where she had recently resided.
Born Nov. 24, 1922 in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Scheuch Klopfer.
On July 21, 1945 she married Robert Swanson, who preceded her in death. Prior to her retirement in 1984 Mrs. Swanson taught school at the Prince George County Public School.
Mrs. Erma L. Losey, 73, of Sheffield, died at 2:25 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Select Service Hospital, Erie following a one-month illness.
A lifelong area resident, Erma was born Nov. 11, 1937 in Kane to the late Francis and Delia McFarlin Carlson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Howard A. Losey whom she married Dec. 11, 1954.
Paul L. Kelly, 83, of Niskayuna, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Rimersburg, he was the son of the late Frank and Grace (Dawson) Kelly. Paul was a graduate of Union High School and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He served in the Navy during World War II. Paul was a licensed funeral director since 1950.
He was employed for the Elmira Casket Co. for two years; the Erie Casket Co. for six years and finally was in sales for the Florence Casket Company for 34 years until his death.
Jane Wahlberg died May 9, 2011 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte following a brief stay after she fell in late March.
Jane was born on April 26, 1918 to Faye and Claude Heinlein in Smethport. Claude was fighting the war in Europe at the time and returned home sick because of a poison gas attack.Â He died while Jane was still very young, and she was raised in Kane by her mother and her maternal grandparents, Bessie and Holly Robinson.Â
JoAnn M. Howell, 77, of Kane, and formerly of Curwensville, passed away Saturday May 7, 2011 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie as a result of an automobile accident.
Born June 10, 1933 in Barnesboro (Northern Cambria) Cambria County, she was the daughter of Hamilton P. and Grace (Bennett) McAnulty. Mrs. Howell was retired as a nurse having worked last in Sebring, Fla. and prior to that had been an operator for the former Bell Telephone Co. She was Methodist by Faith.
Joan G. Hoffman, 81, formerly of 696 JoJo Road, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born April 10, 1930, in St. Marys, she was a daughter of the late Albin and Gertrude Kaiser Kraus.Â On Sept. 6, 1948, in St. Marys, she married Paul R. Hoffman Sr. who preceded her in death in 2003.
Mrs. Hoffman, a mother and homemaker, had been employed as a cook and baker at the former Hillcrest Restaurant for twenty years.
Andrew M. â€śAndyâ€ť Carpenter, 56, of Langmaid Lane, formerly of 10 Forman St., Bradford, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, following a brief illness, surrounded by his caregivers.
Born Aug. 6, 1954, in Kane, he was the only child of the late Norman A. and Irma J. Bloomquist Carpenter.
Andy enjoyed life and always loved a parade.Â He attended the Day Programs at Futures Rehabilitation Center in Bradford.
He is survived by longtime friends with whom he resided, Robert Clawson and Jerry Youngberg, as well as the many friends he made over the years.
Robert E. "Bob" Oliver of Lakeland, Fla. passed away on Jan.uary 10, 2011.
Bob was born in Kane on Feb. 15, 1942, the son of Leo and Katherine Oliver, and attended St. Callistus and Kane High School and graduated with the Class of 1959. He is survived by his former wife Sandra (Strawcutter) Oliver; two daughters, Danette and Debbie; one son, Douglas; one granddaughter, Alexis; one sister, Marie Andoline; one brother, Tom; and many nieces and nephews.
Walter B. "Ben" Ishman, 79, of 12783 Route 948 in Highland, died Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 2011 in the emergency room of the Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 2, 1932 in Sackett, he was the son of Walter M. and Elma C. Rae Ishman.Â On May 5, 1951 in DeYoung, he married Sara A. Nelson, who survives.
Mr. Ishman owned and operated Ishman's Garage for many years, and also was a school bus contractor for the Kane Area School District for many years.
