Florance L. Vasbinder, age 73, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Elk Regional Medical Center in St. Marys.
She was born on May 13, 1937 in Kane daughter to William and Esther Wiser Willard. She resided at 530 First Ave. in Johnsonburg for the past four years, formerly of Kane and Phoenix, Ariz. for 24 years.
She married Paul DeLos Vasbinder on July 19, 1961 in Cumberland, Md., he died Aug. 3, 1991.
She attended Kane schools and was in the Salvation Army located in Ridgway.
J. Marillyn Lester, 82, of Clearfield, died on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at Somerset Hospital, Somerset.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1928 in Mt. Jewett, a daughter of the late Glenn and Helen (Carlson) Wolfe.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Curwensville.
She is survived by three children, Gay Cooper and husband Michael of Smethport, Jon Lester and wife Wanda of Salisbury, and Harold Lester and wife Carol of Export; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lael Giles Rockton.
Mary K. Bishop, 94, of 100 Highpoint Dr. and previously of 2 Greeves St. died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Kane Community Hospital.Â
She was born on Oct. 20, 1915 in Bethlehem, the daughter of the late Michael and Theresa (Nemeth) Keller.Â On Oct 24, 1936, in Bethlehem, she married Anthony J. Bishop who preceded her in death.
Prior to retirement, Mrs. Bishop had been employed at Marstan Mills in Bethlehem.Â While in Kane she was active in the CD of A Court Callistus #66, the Kane Garden Club and the St. Callistus Catholic Church.
Violet D. Stenberg, 83, of Ludlow, died on Saturday, Oct 16, 2010.
She was born on March 31, 1927 in Kane, the daughter of the late Dana and Alva Manross.Â On Jan. 29, 1949 at Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church, she married Irvin G. Stenberg who preceded her in death on May 21, 2008.
Mrs. Stenberg had been employed at the Holgate Toy Co., and New Process in Warren and was also a homemaker.
She was a member of Moriah Lutheran Church in Ludlow, the Ludlow American Legion Post 489 Aux. and the Wildcat Park Aux and enjoyed gardening in her free time.
Gerald E. "Gene" Rote, 83, of Duke Center died Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Edinboro Manor following a long illness.
Born Aug. 27, 1927, in Cranberry, Venango County, he was a son of Gerald A. And Margaret (Laughner) Rote. On Dec. 6, 1974, in the Duke Center United Methodist Church, he married Patricia Myrick Cooper, who passed away on Sept. 8, 1984. On Oct. 26, 1991, in the First Baptist Church, Olean, he married Mary Joan Houben Crocker Tomasick, who survives.
Stephen S. Jones, 42, of 6266 Rte 321 south of Kane, died early Monday morning as a result of injuries sustained in a well drilling accident.
He was born on July 13, 1968 in Kane the son of Thomas Jones and the late Martha (Dalton) Jones.
Steve was a graduate of the Kane Area High School class of 1986 and was employed as a Service Rig Foreman for Howard Drilling in Mt. Jewett. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. # 329 in Kane and the Kane Fish and Game Club.
Reverend Gale W. Cook, age 91, of Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Erie, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Aug. 21, 1919 in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late Winfield and Mary Bavard Cook. Gale was raised by his beloved aunt and uncle, Harriett and Edward Finnefock, of Kane.
Mary A. Lyon-Kepler, 91, of Kane, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at the Sena-Kean Manor, Smethport.
She was born on June 5, 1919 in Kane, a daughter of the late Dominic, Sr. and Grace Tornatora Vito.
She was employed by the former Shirt Factory in Kane for a number of years and by the former Anderson Bar as a waitress from 1969-1970.
John C. Gatewood, 68, formerly of Kane, died Sept 29, 2010 at Scottsdale Osborn hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Born Aug. 3, 1942 in Kane, he was the son of Don and Helen Gatewood formerly of Smithfield Avenue, Kane.
He was a 1960 graduate of Kane Area High School and has made his home at 1114 W. 2nd Street, Mesa, Ariz. 85201.
Regina M Slater, 33, of 321 Beallsville Rd., Bentleyville, and previously of Ludlow, died early Sunday morning in Washington County as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
She was born July 13, 1977 in Kane the daughter of Thomas Slater and Nancy (Bennett) Wonderly.Â Â Â Â
Ms. Slater attended Kane Schools and most recently was employed as the Breakfast Manager for Holiday Inn Express and Best Western
