RIDGWAY â€“ Kane had several chances Tuesday to power past undefeated Ridgway before the Lady Elkers broke through for a 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-13) win.
Tied at 2-2 going into the last set, Ridgway took a dominant start aided heavily by seven Kane errors to take an early 10-1 advantage in the fifth and deciding game.
BRADFORD â€“ Any time a cross country team runs a race, it is unlikely that almost all runners will have their best race on the same day, however, this is just what the Wolves cross country teams did on Saturday at the Bradford Invitational.
The Kane girls golf team fell to 5-3 on the season as they were defeated by Bradford. Consistent rounds in the mid 50s weren't enough to beat the visiting Lady Owls. Bradford's Ashley Mackey too medalist honors with a round of 44. Kane was led by Kyla Hoag with a 53, followed closely by Ellie Tunall and Sarah Szymanski 54, Kelsey Carlson 55 and rounding out the final scoring spot was Megan Durante who shot a 56.
After a slow first half, the Kane Lady Wolves used a strong second half to defeat the St. Marys Lady Dutch 3-0 in a match played at St. Marys Area's soccer field.
Following the game, Kane coach Allie Saquin remarked that she was pleased with her team's second-half effort.
The Kane girls soccer team put together one of their best efforts of the year Saturday as they shutout Port Allegany 3-0.
"[Saturday's] game was something that was definitely needed for our girls team. Everything we have been working on in practice this past week was demonstrated throughout the game," said Coach Allie Saquin.
Taylor Bucheit had the first goal, unassisted, in just under five minutes in the first half which helped to set the tone for the rest of the game. After that, the girls were ready to play their game.
Kane bounce back in a big way Friday after a tough physical loss last week to totally shut down Cameron County, 41-0.
The Kane Lady Wolves evened their season record to 2-2 with a 3-game sweep of the Sheffield Wolverines 25-7, 25-15, 25-22.
â€śWe played fairly consistently all night and passed the ball well for the most part," Kane coach Judy Kessler said. "A few of the girls moved around tonight because of an injury so it was nice to see them adapt very well and play as if theyâ€™ve been in those spots since the beginning.â€ť
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€“ In recent Cross country action, the Varsity boys lost to the Punxsutawney Chucks 18-41.
â€śWe just got out-gunned,â€ť said head coach Adam Smelko. â€śThey had a lot of guys in the middle of their pack we couldnâ€™t come back from that, even though we ran pretty well.â€ť
The St. Marys Area High School golf team split with Ridgway and Kane on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Kane Wolves 223-257, but lost to the Ridgway Elkers 208-223 on Wednesday afternoon at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Ridgway's Jesse Reynolds was the overall medalist for the day with a three-over-par round of 38. Kane's Ryan Greto led his team with a 44. Low scorers for St. Marys Area were Rudy Gleixner and Sam Miller with 40s.
The Kane Wolves varsity soccer team traveled to Ridgway Tuesday afternoon to take on the Ridgway Elkers for the third game of the season and came away with a 3-0 shutout win.
Due to Fridayâ€™s scheduled home game with Dubois Central Catholic being cancelled because of weather, Kane had their third straight league game on the road.
