HERSHEY â€“ Amidst abundant sunshine and beautiful weather in southwest Pennsylvania, the Kane Wolves cross country team finished 14th at this weekendâ€™s PIAA cross country championships in Hershey.
QUEHANNA â€“Â When Randy Caldwell's friends first called him to tell him he had been drawn for a bull elk license in this year's weeklong elk hunt he thought they were playing a practical joke on him.
The Export native recalled that he was in disbelief at first after friends told him they saw in the paper that his name had been drawn.

QUEHANNA â€“Â Jim Scharnitz of Northampton got to have the experience of a lifetime on Monday morning as he successfully harvested a 7x6 bull elk while hunting with his father and guides from Elk County Outfitters.
QUEHANNA â€“Â As of just after 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon a total of 17 elk had been brought to the Pennsylvania Game Commission's elk check station in Quehanna. The animals were all harvested on the opening day of this year's elk hunt and consisted of seven bulls and 10 cows. The 17 tags were among 86 awarded to hunters this year, with 26 tags being drawn for antlered elk and 60 for antlerless.
The Mt. Jewett Sportsmen's Club held its annual Duane Hipchen Memorial "Pump Gun" sporting clays shoot. Chris Kline claimed "TOP GUN" honors with a score of 45 out of 50. Andrew Peterson defended his Jr. "TOP GUN"Â title by winning it for the second year in a row with a 29.
The Kane Wolves won the Allegheny Mountain League title with a 36-6 win over Sheffield on Friday night at Paul R Miller Stadium. The Wolverines, buoyed by a big contingent of fans that made the 18-mile trip up state Route 6, trailed only 14-0 at the half, but the Wolves were too much for the visitors in the second half and went on to win their fourth league title since 2000.
The Kane Wolves defeated the Sheffield Wolverines 34-6 back on Aug. 31 in both teamsâ€™ season openers. Both Kane coach Todd Silfies and Sheffield coach Dave Fitch know that the Sheffield team that lost to the Wolves in week one is not the same Wolverine team that will take the field tonight in the AML championship.
The young Kane volleyball team saw their season come to a halt on Tuesday night after a loss to North Clarion in the first round of the District 9 A playoffs. Kane coach Judy Kesslerâ€™s Lady Wolves entered the season with only two seniors, setter Katelyn Moran and middle hitter Morgan Nicholson. The two led their teammates, including six freshmen that saw significant varsity playing time, to a 9-7 regular season record and a playoff berth.
The Mt. Jewett Sportsmen's Club held its second annual youth pheasant hunt on Saturday, Oct. 19.
