Kaneâ€™s Third Annual Under the Lights 5K will be held this Thursday, June 26 at the Kane Area High School track. The event is held in conjunction with Alumni Week each year and proceeds from the run benefit the Kane All Sports Boosters Club.
Kane boys' basketball Coach Matt Gasbarre has been running a weekly 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the courts in Evergreen Park. Players from grades 4 through 8 are divided into teams from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays each week until the beginning of August. Pictured is the winning team from Friday, June 20. Over the past few months, the Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team has racked up an impressive 26-0 record and has one final game remaining in their seasonâ€“the PIAA Class A State Championship on Friday afternoon.
Though only nine players can be out on the field at any given time, reaching this point and maintaining a perfect record has taken the effort of all 20 of the players on the Crusaders' roster.
Kane native Laura Olson is a successful physical therapist specializing in pediatrics at Baltimoreâ€™s Franklin Square Medical Center. While the 2002 KHS grad spends her days working with children that suffer from cerebral palsy, she spends her evenings strapping on a helmet and practicing as a lineman, or rather, linewoman, for the Baltimore Nighthawks of the Independent Womenâ€™s Football League.
