CLARION â€“ The Kane wrestling team will be sending seven wrestlers to Fridayâ€™s northwest regional tournament in Sharon, including two District 9 AA champions, Evan DeLong and Cody Blankenship.
Joining the two seniors will be Austin Woolcock, Jon Gelsick, Darren Brown, Austin Hulings and Keaton Rounsville.
CLARION â€“ Ten of 12 Kane wrestlers to take part in the 2014 District 9 Class AA Championships remain alive in the hunt to advance to next weekendâ€™s Northwest Regional Tournament in Sharon. Seven Wolves will wrestle in this morningâ€™s semifinals while three are still alive in the consolations. Kane goes into Saturdayâ€™s action in third place in the team score, with 66 points, behind Brookvilleâ€™s 72 and Redbank Valleyâ€™s 70.5.
CLARION â€“ The 2013-2014 Kane boysâ€™ basketball team left everything they had on the court in Thursday nightâ€™s District 9 AA playoff game with Karns City. The Wolves and Gremlins battled it out for four quarters but it came down to the final seconds as a Kane basket was ruled after the buzzer to give Karns City a 44-43 win.
ST. MARYS â€“ For the Lady Wolves' inexperience in the playoffs, Kane sure knew how to finish Thursday's playoff game with Curwensville.
The Kane Area Middle School wrestlers traveled to Brockway on Saturday to take part in the District 9 Junior High Tournament. Nine Wolves wrestlers competed in the district tournament, with one Kane wrestler, Aiden Hulings, coming away with a championship.
I have written many times about my search for the elusive and rare visitor from the far north, the snowy owl. As far as birds of prey are concerned, the snowy owl is at the top of my â€śwant to seeâ€™ list. In late December of 2012 and early January of 2013, reports of snowy owl sightings started to show up. Not in big numbers, but they were seen here and there. In my case it was mostly â€śthere.â€ť I ventured to the shores of Lake Erie, on Presque Isle, with no luck. I probably had waited too long, and the owl or owls, was gone.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders captured the 2014 Allegheny Mountain League championship Saturday night by defeating the Kane Lady Wolves by a 51-37 score.
Elk, the North Division champ, reached the title game by defeating the South Division runnerup Brockway Friday night. Kane, the North Division second seed, defeated the South Division champion DuBois Central Friday night.
The Kane Area High School Competition Cheerleaders attended the Champion Cheer Central Red Hot Cheer and Dance Competition at Clarion University on Sunday and competed in two different divisions with two different routines for the first time this season.Â
The third time proved to be a charm for coach Dave Kiehlâ€™s Kane girlsâ€™ basketball team.
The Lady Wolves took on the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals for the third time in two weeks and beat them for the first time this season, 31-28, on DCCâ€™s home court Friday night. The game was an Allegheny Mountain League [AML] semifinal contest with the winner advancing to tonightâ€™s AML final to be played at St Marys Area High School at 6 p.m. against Elk County Catholic.
Novice wrestlers from Kane's junior wrestling program recently completed their season. The young first- and second-year wrestlers had an outstanding season, winning many novice tournaments.
