Birds of prey have always been a fascination of mine. Just to drive down the road and get a glimpse of a red-tail hawk sitting on a branch, is a rush for me. Why do I get excited about a hawk sitting on a branch you might wonder. It’s because the hawk just isn’t sitting there doing nothing he, or she, is actually hunting. For a hawk, or most birds of prey, making a kill almost daily is a must for their survival.
Last year’s PIAA runner-up Johnsonburg showed Friday night’s crowd in the Wolves Den that the 2014 version is a darn good team. The Rams ran out to a big lead early and rolled to a 69-30 win.
JOHNSONBURG – The Kane Lady Wolves squandered an early 12-point lead Friday night and allowed the Ramettes to get back into the swing of things by halftime but a resilient Kane squad regrouped with a key run in the third quarter to clinch a 47-38 road win in Paper City.
"We are quick and we have a lot of speed but sometimes it's just not under control," said Kane head varsity girls basketball coach Dave Kiehl following the win. "That's what happens, some turnovers and defensive lapses and [Kocjancic] had a decent amount of her points during that spread so that's what was killing us."
