The Kane girlsâ soccer team fell to a deep West Forest team by a score of 4-2 on Thursday afternoon in Kane. The Lady Wolves fell to 1-1 on the young season after a 3-1 victory over Smethport on Tuesday.
ST. MARYS â In their opening match of the season, the Kane Lady Wolves took the St. Marys Dutch to five sets but fell just short of an exciting win.
The Dutch took the first set 25-20 but the Wolves bounced back for a 25-17 win.Â The momentum carried into set three where the Wolves won 25-19.Â In a back and forth contest to the very end, the Dutch took set four 25-23 and then won the final set 15-11.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader cross country squad opened their dual meet season with a 23-32 loss to the visiting Kane Wolves on Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park. The Lady Crusaders ran unopposed as Kane did not have enough runners to field a team.
SHEFFIELD â The Kane Wolves football team opened up the 2013 season with a convincing 34-6 win over the Sheffield Wolverines in Sheffield on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves offense used a balanced attack while the defense forced five Wolverine turnovers on a hot and humid afternoon.
Kane volleyball coach Judy Kessler has seen nearly everything in her 20-plus years of coaching the Lady Wolves. While she and assistant coach Rae El Johnson have a few key returning players, the 2013 squad is loaded with some talented young players. Coach Kessler gives the following outlook for the season.
The Kane Marching Band is under the direction of Matthew McClard. Assistant directors are Henry Sobieski and Joe Thornburg. The Color Guard Director is Kathleen Prosperi.
Last yearâs Kane girlsâ soccer team struggled at times due to low numbers on the team after some key injuries left the team playing shorthanded a number of games. Despite the thin bench, the 2012 team played hard from whistle to whistle. This year, the team will have 18 players on the roster, including nine returning letter winners and seven seniors.
While Kane golf coach Nathan Smith lost âthe best golfer I ever coached, Kyla Hoagâ to graduation, donât feel too sorry for him. The cupboard isnât empty for the girlsâ team, as Smith has four golfers ready to kick off their senior seasons. Three other golfers round out the 2013 squad for Smith and assistant coach Jason Holt.
The 2012 Kane Wolves Football team came up just 12 seconds short of a District 9 title in coach Todd Silfies's first year at the helm. The Wolves finished the season with a 7-4 record.
The Wolves' coaching staff must find a few replacements for some key departing seniors. Coach Silfies is hesitant to use the word âreplace,â insisting that this is âa new year, a new team and will have a new look.â While there will be a number of new faces in key positions, Silfies does have 12 returning letter winners.
Kane cross country coach Adam Smelko is eagerly awaiting the 2013 season. Team members have logged a lot of miles over the summer training for this season. Coach Smelko feels that this year, the Kane boysâ team has âboth quality and quantity.â
