CLARION â€“ The fifth time wasnâ€™t a charm for the Kane Lady Wolves basketball team. The 2012-2013 Lady Wolves tried to win the programâ€™s first district title in five trips to the finals on Friday night in the Class AA championship game against Brookville but came up on the short end of a 63-51 decision.
The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team will take on the Brookville Lady Raiders in tonightâ€™s District 9 AA Championship game. The contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. in Clarion Universityâ€™s Tippin Gymnasium.
The Kane Middle Schoolâ€™s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams improved their records to 2-0 with wins over Elk County Catholic Tuesday night. The eighth grade team struggled early, losing the first match of the evening 25-18, but soon got their footing and won the final three matches of the evening with scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-17.
The Kane Cheerleading Club attended Galaxy's Winter Blast Competition at the Jamestown Community College Physical Education Complex in Jamestown, N.Y. and came home as the Scholastic Grand Champions. On their way to the overall competition win, they placed first in the Non-Tumble Division as well as placing first in the Varsity Tumble Division.
CLARION â€“ Two Kane Wolves wrestlers won district titles on Saturday at Clarion University while two teammates took third place to earn a spot in the Northwest Regional Tournament.
CLARION â€“ The Kane Lady Wolves defeated Redbank Valley on Friday night at Clarion High School in the District 9 AA semifinals by a score of 53-39. The Lady Wolves overcame the loss of leading scorer and rebounder, Kaila Jamerson, who went down with a knee injury just 28 seconds into the game.
Kane wrestling coach Mike Swartwood has eight wrestlers still in the mix to advance to next weekâ€™s Northwest Regional Tournament. Four Wolves still have the opportunity to claim a district title, earning a spot in this morningâ€™s semifinals.
The Kane Lady Wolves overcame a sluggish start in Wednesday nightâ€™s contest against the Curwensville Golden Tide to come away with a 46-32 win in the opening round of the District 9 AA playoffs.
The Lady Wolves played the Tide 11 days ago in a Saturday morning makeup game, and shot horrendously, narrowly escaping with the win. Wednesday night appeared to be heading the same way but the Lady Wolves outscored the visitors 20-5 in the third quarter to take control of the contest.
Kaneâ€™s fourth grade boysâ€™ basketball team took part in a tournament recently and came away with second place.
Three athletes from Kaneâ€™s indoor track and field team brought home medals from Saturdayâ€™s Tri-State Track Coaches Association (TSTCA) meet. The meet, held at Edinboro University, was a qualifier for this Saturdayâ€™s Pennsylvaniaâ€™s indoor state championships to be held at Penn State University.
