Payment issue clouds Lantz Corners sewer links

MT. JEWETT –  Even though the Lantz Corners Sewer District is virtually complete, connections to the Mt. Jewett sewage system will be delayed until a payment issue can be resolved.
An agreement adopted more than a decade ago calls for Hamlin Township to make a one-time payment of $104,000 to the Mt. Jewett Regional Sewer Authority before sending Lantz Corners sewage to the Mt. Jewett treatment plant.

Community service in lieu of jail is saving money

SMETHPORT – McKean County is saving money when defendants in criminal cases perform community service instead of spending time in jail.
According to a 2013 report on the Good Growing Gardens (3G) program, the county last year saved $185,445 because defendants performed 10,210 hours of community service in lieu of serving 2,853 days in the county jail near Smethport.
County President Judge John Pavlock presented the 2013 report Tuesday at a meeting of the McKean County Board of Commissioners.

With the addition, Tom Sirianni becomes a third generation watchmaker in a legacy that dates back to 1947 when his grandfather Joseph Sirianni, along with Joe’s brother Louis, opened Sirianni Brothers Jewelers.

Richard P. "Rich" Bartels

Richard P. "Rich" Bartels, 76, of 614 North Fraley St., Kane, formerly of School Street in East Kane, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Dec. 10, 1937 in Dravosburg, he was the son of Paul A. and Bernice M. Forsythe Bartels. On March 18, 1960 in Fort Payne, Ala., he married Jean A. Lamb, who survives.
Rich was a road supervisor for Hamilton Township for several years, and later was, among other things, a mechanic for Wetmore Township for 14 years, both near Kane.

Kane council agrees to establish borough website

The borough of Kane is moving into the technology age.
The Kane Borough Council voted 7-0 Monday to spend up to $500 to create a website on the internet.
Council President Howard Kane joined with Councilwomen Janet Bard and Holly Harris and Councilmen Dennis Drost, John Gentilman, Gary Schul and Tom Kase to approve the project.

Lantz Corners sewer project is virtually complete

LANTZ CORNERS – For more than a decade, plans have been discussed for a public sewer project for the Lantz Corners area.
Work finally began last year and now this long-anticipated project is virtually complete.
Dan Slagle, a Pittsburgh area engineer who designed the project, said Monday that the project is at "substantial completion."
He reported on the project at a meeting of the Hamlin Township Board of Supervisors-- Jim Trussell, Joni Britton and Dave Okerlund.

Another step towards cell service in Hamilton Township

LUDLOW – Hamilton Township residents might have more reliable cell phone service soon, according to a township official. Supervisor Becky Davidson, who also serves as the township’s secretary/treasurer, reported during a brief monthly meeting Monday morning that an assessment permit was issued to build a Verizon cell phone tower on Gibbs Hill.
Supervisor Nora Yasurek conducted the very brief meeting due to the absence of Chairman Brian Bastow. Those in attendance heard that the township’s road crew had spent much of July brush hogging the areas adjacent to the township’s roads.

Alice K. Coleman

Alice K. Coleman, 92, formerly of 508 Hacker St., died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Dec. 31, 1921, in Maple Heights, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Irvin A. and Flora Jeffords Keyser. On July 31, 1954, she married Martin R. Coleman who preceded her in death.
Alice was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a lifelong member of both the Phoenix Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star in Smethport and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Richard P. Bartels, 76, formerly of 610 North Fraley St., Kane, and School Street in East Kane, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2014 in The Lutheran Home at Kane.
