Donald E. Cooley

Donald E. Cooley, 76, of 215 Park Ave., Kane, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2013 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport where he resided since last Friday.
A lifelong resident of Kane, he was born Jan. 24, 1937 in Kane, son of John J. and Frances M. Smith Cooley. 
He served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Vietnam War, then transferred to the Army Reserves. Mr. Cooley then worked for the Hanley Brick Company in Lewis Run for many years. He was an avid hunter with his beagle, Patty, alongside.

Retiring mayor receives citation

Rep. Martin Causer presents a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to retiring Lewis Run Borough Mayor Abbie Montecalvo. Montecalvo is stepping down after 60 years of public service to the borough of Lewis Run, first as a borough council member for four years and then as mayor for 56 years.

Kane ends EQT tournament with 51-40 win

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen ended the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament with a tough 51-40 loss to the Kane Wolves on Saturday afternoon in a consolation game played at Elk County Catholic High School.
The Wolves held a slim 17-16 lead after the first quarter but then outscored St. Marys 15-9 in the second to go up 32-25 at the half. A low scoring third quarter put Kane ahead 39-29 and they maintained that advantage in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.

Lady Elkers fall to Lady Wolves at EQT Classic

ST. MARYS – Kane girls basketball won 42-22 over Ridgway Saturday afternoon in a consolation game of the EQT Energy Classic held at Elk County Catholic High School.

Driver in Ludlow accident could be fined $594

LUDLOW –- The driver of a car that flipped on its roof along Route 6 near Ludlow on Christmas Eve faces fines of $594. An 18-year-old St. Marys residence was not injured in the accident about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at Route 6 and Wildcat Road near Ludlow.

Wolves wrestlers go 4-1 in Warren Duals

The Kane Wolves wrestling team took on five District 10 teams at Friday’s Warren Duals and finished the day with a 4-1 record. Coach Mike Swartwood’s team began their day with AAA Titusville and handed the Rockets a 54-23 loss.

Margaret J. Fox, 76, of 77 West Main St., Ludlow, died late Thursday afternoon, Dec. 26, 2013 at the home of her son in Kane.
Born May 12, 1937 in Potter County, she was the daughter of Lloyd L. and Luella Finlaw Irwin. On Sept. 24, 1960 in Kane, she married James H. Fox, who died in 2005.
Margaret had worked at Stackpole Corp. in Kane and had owned the Horseshoe Deli in Ludlow for several years.
