PUNXSUTAWNEY — This morning, I looked down and noticed something — I was wearing a press pass. Now, I know that it's part of my job to wear one, but it's not all that often — at least not in these parts — that I actually need one. 

Jack C. Bryington

Jack C. Bryington, 88, of 193 Clarion Street in Wilcox, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 2, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 8, 1925 in Wilcox, he was the son of Conard G. and Katherine E. Nichols Bryington. On Oct. 9, 1947 in Johnsonburg, he married Mary K. Kearney, who survives.
Jack was an ironworker for Local 772 of the Bridge Ornamental and Structural Ironworkers of American for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

William L. Hultman

William L. Hultman, 78, of 12 Greeves St., Kane, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at St. Vincent Health System in Erie.
Born July 6, 1935 in Kane, he was the son of Charles W. "Toby" and Viola B. Anderson Hultman.
Having served in the Army National Guard, he worked as a manager for the former A & P grocery stores in both Dubois and Kane for many years.
Bill belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW Post #1132, both in Kane, and the Dads of Vets.

Wolves wrestlers go 0-2 at D9 AA team duals

Maxine L. "Mick" Alabaugh

Maxine L. "Mick" Alabaugh, 80, formerly of 418 Chase St., Kane, died Thursday evening, Jan. 30, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided since November 2012.
Born Sept. 28, 1933 in Leeper, she was the daughter of Henry E. and Helen G. Frill Heasley. On March 21, 1959 in Venus, she married Allison V. "Jack" Alabaugh, who survives.
Mrs. Alabaugh worked at Stackpole in Kane for 25 years, retiring in 1977. She was of the Catholic faith and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

We're a pretty small town, and most places my reporters or I go, we're familiar faces who don't need a specific credential to show it. But today? Well, today is different.

Lady Wolves fall short against Lady Cardinals

Kane girls’ basketball coach Dave Kiehl needed only to look at one statistic after the game to explain his team’s 42-37 loss to DuBois Central Catholic on Friday night: foul shooting. The Lady Wolves have been fairly consistent at the line, but only made four of 13 from the charity stripe in the Wolves’ Den against DCC.

Kane school, judge take tough stance on truancy

Skipping school has serious consequences in Kane.
Both the school administration and Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman are taking a tough stance on truancy.
"Students cannot learn if they are not present in school," Dr. Maryann Anderson, school district superintendent, said. She pointed out that the school district is required to enforce the state compulsory attendance law.
