Not too long ago, Kane’s uptown seemed as though it had as many empty storefronts as it did occupied ones. Fortunately, during the past few months, a few fledgling entrepreneurs took a chance on Kane and opened up businesses.

Lantz Corners girl chosen as McKean County Queen

EAST SMETHPORT – Emily Housler of Lantz Corners is the McKean County Fair Queen for 2013-14.
She was chosen Saturday night at the Queen Coronation Contest at the Mini Stage at the county fairgrounds in East Smethport.

Kornhole 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk/ Beer Belly Dash

Competitors in the First Annual Kornhole 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk/ Beer Belly Dash are pictured on Saturday after the races. Mary Dinger was the overall winner of the 5K, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:54. The race was in memory of Kevin Lindquist and all proceeds benefitted Elks charities.

Kane school chief has setback in federal court

ERIE – A federal judge ruled Friday against two "sanction" motions filed on behalf of Dr. Maryann Anderson in her 2007 "whistle-blower" lawsuit.
One motion calls for a sanction against a defense attorney in the case. Another deals with the alleged concealment of evidence.

Police conduct ‘biggest bath salts’ bust in Kane

Several totes loaded with drug paraphernalia are headed to the Erie Crime Lab following what Police Chief Brian Hillard is calling the “biggest bath salts” bust ever in Kane.

Board votes 6-3 for longer school day in Kane

The Kane school day will be longer for students when classes resume Aug. 27.
The Kane School Board voted 6-3 Thursday to approve an "administrative plan" to lengthen the school day to provide more time for remedial work and "enrichment" programs.

Citizen reaction to Thursday’s school board meeting decidedly negative

Many residents of the Kane Area School District that were in attendance at Thursday’s meeting were not satisfied with the actions taken by the school board. The two major issues concerning the bulk of the audience were the extension of the school day and the possible disciplinary action against two school district employees.

The Kane Country Club Ladies Open was held Tuesday, Aug. 13 with 68 women from 11 different clubs participating. Despite the early rain, the day ended with sunshine and a nice dinner and door prizes.
