ECC pulls away from Lady Wolves for road win

Both the Kane Lady Wolves and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders struggled early in Monday night’s game in the Wolves’ Den. Both teams’ shooting was as cold as the weather outside to start off the game. The visitors led 13-9 at the half before pulling away for the 35-24 win.

Dress Drive in Kane

Cinderella's Closet of Kane held their Dress Drive on Saturday at the Kane Community Center on Fraley Street. The group has received more than 200 dresses, dozens of pairs of dress shoes, many purses and lots of jewelry for their cause. Female students of Kane Area High School will be able to register to borrow a dress and accessories to attend formal dances this spring.

Country music band Sawyer Brown coming to St. Marys

Tickets are going fast for the upcoming Sawyer Brown concert taking place on Saturday, March 1 in St. Marys Area High School's Carpin Auditorium. Showtime is set for 7 p.m. with guitar comedian Kier as the opening act.
"We like the energy that they bring. It's a really entertaining show," said Sandy Buerk, St. Marys Auto Body co-owner and show sponsor.

Keystone tops St. Marys Area in Cheer Frenzy Varsity Division

A week after a scoring error left St. Marys Area and Keystone's competition cheerleading teams tied for the District 9 Competitive Spirit title, the two teams faced off again, this time in the Varsity Division of the 10th annual ECC Cheer Frenzy, which was held at Elk County Catholic High School on Saturday.

KAMS wrestlers take second place at Port Allegany Tournament

St. Marys man dies in fire

ST. MARYS – A 77-year-old St. Marys man died early Saturday morning in a fire at 523 Brusselles St., St. Marys.
A report filed by Trooper Robert J. Southern of the Ridgway-based state police confirmed the death of James L. Robbins in the blaze which reportedly broke out shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
His wife, Joan M. Robbins, 69, escaped the blaze and was reportedly transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital. Sources familiar with the situation confirmed Saturday night that she was being treated for second degree burns but had also suffered from severe smoke inhalation.

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department requires more municipal aid to continue to offer first-class service to the borough of Kane and Wetmore Township.

Jeff Kocjancic goes over 1,000 as Wolves defeat Rovers

The Kane Wolves lost a nail-biter to Brookville on Wednesday as senior Jeff Kocjancic closed in on the 1,000 career point plateau. On Friday night, in front of a large crowd in the Wolves’ Den, the Wolves rallied to defeat the Brockway Rovers and Kocjancic scored 18 points to become only the seventh player in Kane boys’ basketball history to top 1,000 points for a career.

Hearing is slated for driver in 6-fatality crash

SMETHPORT – A preliminary hearing for the alleged drug-influenced driver in a six-fatality traffic accident is tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27 before Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman.
