Led by the Easter Bunny, children and their parents begin the search for treats Saturday at the annual Kane Easter Egg Hunt. A Kane fire truck siren signaled the start of the hunt on a chilly morning with temperatures in the low 40s. This is the scene at the former Chestnut Street Elementary School where pre-school children and kindergarten students searched for treats. Older children looked for treats across the street in Evergreen Park. The K-Club of Kane sponsors the Egg Hunt with donations from the Kane Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the VFW Auxiliary.
Maryellen "Gabby" Morris, 76, of 100 Kentucky Ave., James City, died Friday evening, April 18, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1938 in Coal Mine, she was the daughter of Frederick E. and Doris E. Oyler Edinger.Â On Nov. 24, 1955, she married Lloyd G. "G-man" Morris, who survives.
Gabby, a well-known CB radio enthusiast, was a lifetime member of the Highland Township Fire Department and was awarded Citizen of the Year in Kane in 1985 after the tornado.
Micheal Bush, 34, of Clarendon, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 in St. Vincentâ€™s Health Care following an extended illness.
He was born April 4, 1980 in St. Marys to John H. and Carolyn S. Blankenship Bush Sr. of Kane.
The Kane Borough Council is weighing its options for renovating the three tennis courts at Evergreen Park.
Two bids have been received for resurfacing the courts.Â
Kingsview Enterprises of Lakewood, N.Y. has submitted the apparent low bid of $40,300 for new pavement for the courts. Maple Athletic Surfaces submitted a bid of $82,000.
On Monday at 11 a.m., Molly Quesenberry, 42, of St. Marys will take to the starting line of the Boston Marathon fulfilling a vow she made to return to the race.
The Kane Country Club golf course now is open for the season. Ready to play Friday are cousins Joe Scutella (left) of St. Marys and Pete Palumbo (right) of Bradford. Both are Kane natives and members of the Kane Country Club. The 18-hole course is open to the public. There is a weekday rate including greens fees and golf cart, and is in effect today and Sunday. Their is a Wednesday special which includes golf, cart and a steak dinner. John Rook, a 2005 graduate of Kane High School, is in his fourth year as the pro at Kane Country Club. Mayor William "Yogi" Osmer said he and Police Officer-in-charge Heath Boyer plan to meet with Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman on the issue.
A rabies clinic was held last Saturday at the Kane Fire Hall by the McKean County SPCA. A total of 149 dogs and cats were vaccinated. For those who missed the event, the Bradford chapter of the SPCA will sponsor another Rabies Clinic on Saturday, April 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the animal shelter at 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford. Pictured is Bilbo, a resident at the SPCA. He is great with dogs, cats and children. Bilbo, along with many others at the SPCA, would make a fine addition to home.
A fire of undetermined origin damaged a barn Wednesday afternoon at the Sandy and Larry Johnson horse farm at 739 S. Settlement Rd., Wetmore Township.
