Amelia Irene (Znidarsic) Morgan, 83, of Sayre, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at Elderwood Nursing Home, Waverly.
Amelia âEmmaâ was born April 18, 1930 to the late John and Irene Znidarsic in James City. She graduated from Kane High School in 1948. Emma married John M. Morgan of Halsey in 1951, and they lived together and raised their family in Sayre.
Emma liked to be outdoors, going on rides through the country with John. She liked to paint and do needlepoint. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Francis M. Johnson, 67, of 641 South Settlement Rd., Kane, died Saturday morning, Jan. 18, 2014 at her residence following a long illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1946 in St. Marys, she was the daughter of Robert M. and Anna Mae Hasselman Pelgrin. On Jan. 1, 1976 in Kane, she married Gary D. Johnson, who survives.
Francis was a teller at First National Bank in St. Marys for several years, then in a supervisory position at First National Bank in Erie. Later, she worked at Stackpole in Kane, from which she retired in 1985.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kane.
Elk County Catholic head coach Aaron Straub recorded his 700th varsity boys basketball coaching victory on Monday night as the Crusaders defeated the visiting Kane Wolves 66-26 in a contest played in the ECCHS gymnasium.
Both the Kane Lady Wolves and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders struggled early in Monday nightâs game in the Wolvesâ Den. Both teamsâ shooting was as cold as the weather outside to start off the game. The visitors led 13-9 at the half before pulling away for the 35-24 win.
Cinderella's Closet of Kane held their Dress Drive on Saturday at the Kane Community Center on Fraley Street. The group has received more than 200 dresses, dozens of pairs of dress shoes, many purses and lots of jewelry for their cause. Female students of Kane Area High School will be able to register to borrow a dress and accessories to attend formal dances this spring.
Tickets are going fast for the upcoming Sawyer Brown concert taking place on Saturday, March 1 in St. Marys Area High School's Carpin Auditorium. Showtime is set for 7 p.m. with guitar comedian Kier as the opening act.

A week after a scoring error left St. Marys Area and Keystone's competition cheerleading teams tied for the District 9 Competitive Spirit title, the two teams faced off again, this time in the Varsity Division of the 10th annual ECC Cheer Frenzy, which was held at Elk County Catholic High School on Saturday.

ST. MARYS â A 77-year-old St. Marys man died early Saturday morning in a fire at 523 Brusselles St., St. Marys.
A report filed by Trooper Robert J. Southern of the Ridgway-based state police confirmed the death of James L. Robbins in the blaze which reportedly broke out shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
His wife, Joan M. Robbins, 69, escaped the blaze and was reportedly transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital. Sources familiar with the situation confirmed Saturday night that she was being treated for second degree burns but had also suffered from severe smoke inhalation.
The appeal for additional funding for the fire department is a hot topic in Kane.
The Kane Volunteer Fire Department requires more municipal aid to continue to offer first-class service to the borough of Kane and Wetmore Township.
