Lavern Causer

Lavern Causer, 84, of 152 W. Main St., Mt. Jewett, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born May 28, 1930, in Crosby, he was a son of the late Claude and Jennie Cornelius Causer. On July 27, 1953, in Mt. Jewett, he married Katherine Thomas Causer who preceded him in death Nov. 14, 2010. 

Dorothy C. “Dottie” Bryington

Dorothy C. “Dottie” Bryington, 48, of Walnut Street, St. Marys, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 in Clearfield.
She was born March 9, 1966 in Kane, daughter of Donald Bedford of Kane and Martha “Sis” (Morgan) Bedford of Wilcox.
She was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She worked as a cook for local restaurants.
She was a member of the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, Wilcox Sportsman’s and the American Legion of Wilcox and Johnsonburg.
She lived in Wilcox most of her life until the past few years in Johnsonburg and St. Marys.

Lady Wolves lose to North Clarion in Holiday Tournament

The Kane Lady Wolves’ shooters went ice cold in the second half of Friday night’s game with North Clarion. The two teams met up in the nightcap of the First Annual Kane Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament and the hosts got outscored 23-8 in the second half on their way to a 44-34 defeat.

William L. "Bill" Reinard

William L. "Bill" Reinard, 80, of 112 Fraley St., Kane, died late Thursday evening, Dec. 25, 2014 at his residence.
Born June 9, 1934 in Kane, he was the son of Walter and Leona Reisinger Reinard. On June 11, 1994, he married Joyce L. Larson Bush, who survives.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, discharged at the rank of corporal. He worked for the former Market Basket in Kane, then co-owned and operated the former Reavley Hotel in Kane along with his mother.

KVFD battle Christmas morning house fire

A home at 5880 Route 66 suffered extensive damage in a fire early Christmas morning. Kane Volunteer firefighters were called out to the fire at 1:15 am Christmas and were on the scene for approximately two hours.
The homeowner, Lee Baum, was home at the time of the fire but was not injured, according to Kane Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Holt. Chief Holt and a state fire marshal were at the scene late Christmas morning and ruled the fire accidental.

Rams overpower Wolves for 69-36 win

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg junior Kevin Benson (24 points) and senior Zane Hodgdon (15 points) combined Tuesday night to outscore the Kane Wolves basketball team (1-3) in a 69-36 win in the Paper City.
"I don't know what our shooting percentage was but it must be one of the highest that we've had all year, and that has to do with taking the proper shots," Johnsonburg head varsity boys basketball coach Bill Shuey.
The Rams (5-3) dominated on the boards Tuesday night as they built a commanding lead and never looked back.

Charles "Huxie" W. Nearing

Charles "Huxie" W. Nearing, 77, of Burning Well Road, Wilcox, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born Aug. 5, 1937, in Wilcox, he was a son of the late Linus and Margaret Paulina Nearing.
"Huxie" served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Veterans' Memorial Club in Mt. Jewett and the Wilcox Sportsman's Club.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as the dog catcher for Elk County.

Anna Jean Peterson

Anna Jean Peterson, 71, of 908 Welsh St., Kane, died unexpectedly at her home Monday, Dec. 22, 2014.
Born May 4, 1943 in Kane, she was the daughter of Samuel and Dessa Sewell Mays. On April 25, 1969 in Johnsonburg, she married Edward D. "Eddie Pete" Peterson, who died June 12, 2013.
Anna grew up in Westline and was a waitress at the former Colonial Inn near Kane for many years, then worked in the dietary department of the Kane Community Hospital for over 30 years. 
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kane, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

KHS students “Happy” with Lip Dub Video

Hundreds of Kane Area High School students spent last Thursday afternoon running down the halls of the school, smiling, singing, dancing and throwing confetti. Last day of school before break? No, it was the filming of a lip dub video.
Teacher Brian Wymer saw an online contest for school-produced videos that showcased school spirit in a Pittsburgh newspaper. With the Kane football team still playing in the playoffs, he showed some of his students a few of the submitted videos and challenged them to come up with ideas for a KHS video that would show the Wolves’ spirit.

It was a tale of two halves on Wednesday night in the Wolves’ Den. The Kane Lady Wolves’ basketball...
