Volunteering at Camp JJ - A family tradition for many

There is a feeling of family in the air when visitors stop by Camp JJ. There is good reason for that as a number of the volunteer counselors have been back year after year. In the case of Mona Novak, there are three generations of her family helping out at the yearly gathering at the Highland Christian Camp.

Daniel J. Bires, 76, of 9 N. Hillside Ave., Ludlow, died on Friday morning, July 26, 2013 in the emergency room at Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 15, 1937, in Ludlow, he was a son of the late John and Mary Steffan Bires. On June 28, 1956, he married Arlene "Cubby" Irwin who preceded him in death in 2010.

JOHNSONBURG – Law enforcement authorities completed an investigation Thursday but were unable to explain the cause of the July 12 fire at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg, saying only that there are "no suspicious circumstances."

Students participate in open gym

Girls hoping to play volleyball for the Kane Lady Wolves take part in an open gym on Thursday morning. Official practice for fall sports, including volleyball, begins on Monday, Aug. 12.

Rose Johnson, 74, of 17 North Oak St., Kane, died early Thursday morning, July 25, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1938 in Marienville, she was the daughter of Charles R. and Effie M. Barr Sharrow. On Aug. 29, 1958 in Crown, she married Virgil A. Johnson, who survives.
A homemaker, Rose did housekeeping for folks in the area. She was a lifetime member of the McKean County Fire Police and belonged to the Kane Fire Dept. Auxiliary. She enjoyed puzzles and embroidery.
