SHEFFIELD â€“ The Kane Wolves football team opened up the 2013 season with a convincing 34-6 win over the Sheffield Wolverines in Sheffield on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves offense used a balanced attack while the defense forced five Wolverine turnovers on a hot and humid afternoon.
Six-year-old Jarrett Costanzo idolized his older brothers Angelo and Jacob and looked forward to the day that he, too, could play youth football.
Meanwhile, he was happy to be on the sidelines as the spirited "water boy."
His 12-year-old cousin Olivia Douglas, a Kane native who lived with her father in Eldred, was a vibrant young girl who was a cheerleader with the Little Nippers youth football program for Otto-Eldred.Â

Jack D. Safreed, 87, of 14 Oberg Ave., Mt. Jewett, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Oct. 27, 1925, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of John and Laura Best Safreed.Â On Aug. 13, 1983, at Lake Tahoe, he married Patricia Dinsmore who survives.
Mr. Safreed was employed byÂ the Bechtel Company and was a millwright by trade.Â His work consisted mainly of building nuclear power plants.
David E. Meckley, 46, of 130 Greeves St., Kane, formerly of Lamont, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 in the Intensive Care Unit at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 29, 1967 in Kane, he was the son of Robert G. and Rebecca E. Campbell Meckley.
A graduate of Kane Area High School, David lived most of his life in Kane.Â Prior to his illness, he was a caregiver for Concerned Care in Kansas City, Mo., and had volunteered for many years at The Lutheran Home at Kane.Â He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kane.
Hazel B. Marconi, 91, of 214 Hickory Dr., Longwood, Fla., formerly of Kane, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at her daughter Judyâ€™s residence.
Born Sept. 30, 1921, in Barnes, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Martha (Cook) Woods.
On Sept. 18, 1941 in St. Callistus Roman Catholic Church, she married Fred A. Marconi, who died on May 7, 2012.
Mrs. Marconi was a 1939 graduate of James City High School. She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane and a member of Mary Help of Christians Church in Parkland, Fla.
Olivia Douglas, 12, of 12 Elm St., Eldred, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident which occurred on U.S. Route 219 north of Lantz Corners.
Born Jan. 23, 2001, in Bradford, she was a daughter of Dan Douglas and Kathy Jenkins Douglas.
Olivia was very active in school and wasÂ loved by her many friends.Â She enjoyed beingÂ a cheerleader forÂ the Otto Eldred Nippers.

Born July 11, 2007, in Warren, Jarrett was the son of Angelo and Michelle Jenkins Costanzo.
HAMLIN TWP. â€“ Six people were killed Saturday evening in a fatal two-car crash on state Route 219 at Mead Run Road in Hamlin Township, McKean County.
Kathy Douglas, age 36, of Kane, driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty, suffered serious injuries in the crash along with a 10-year-old juvenile. Two other juveniles, ages 12 and 6, died in the crash.
All four occupants in a second vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville, died. They included Gary Beimel, age 62, Elaine Beimel, age 55, David Cuneo, age 54, and Florence Donachy, age 81, all of St. Marys.
