Dorothy M. Smith, 98, of 857 8th. St., West Pittsburgh, and formerly of 608 Park Ave., Kane, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at her residence.
Born April 26, 1915, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Nellie Niver Burdick.Â On May 19, 1931, in Mayville, N.Y., she married George Smith who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith had lived in the New Castle area for several years.Â Prior to that, she lived in Kane and had been employed by Stackpole for many years.
She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The Kane Historic Preservation Society invites the public to attend a "Presidential Tea" on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kane Depot.
Kane's Sydney Dyne goes up for a shot during Saturday's scrimmage against St. Marys. Practice for winter sports seasons began last Monday for KHS basketball and wrestling teams. Dyne and the Lady Wolves will open their season on Monday, Dec. 9 on the road against Elk County Catholic.
MT. JEWETT â€“Â Activity at the bear check station at the Mt. Jewett Fire Hall in McKean County was slow on Saturday afternoon, with only a dozen bears being brought to the site through 3 p.m. to kick off the opening day of the statewide firearms bear season. In addition to Saturday, the four-day season continues today through Wednesday.
Sally Nelson Oâ€™Brien, 53, died at home on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 in Durham, N.C.
Sally was born in Wooster, Ohio on Aug. 2, 1960 to Maxine and Tom Nelson, of Ludlow, who survive.Â Also surviving is her husband, Larry Oâ€™Brien, and her two daughters, Jessica Blakely and Amy Blakely, also of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Gwen Nelson (Mike) Bengfort of The Woodlands, Texas, and Patty Nelson (Chris) Merrifield of Atlanta, Ga.; and a niece, Maggie Merrifield.
George W. Hollabaugh, 70, of 612 North Fraley St., Kane, died Saturday evening, Nov. 23, 2013 at his residence.
Arrangements, under the care of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home,Â Inc., are incomplete and will be announced.

*Paul Douglas Eastman, 26, of 431 Greeves St., Kane, is charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.
Kane Borough Police Officer Jason Woodin filed the charges after observing a black 2001 Jeep Patriot driven by the defendant in the 400 block of Greeves Street.

SMETHPORT â€“ A Ludlow man has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of growing marijuana at his residence at 33 Mackann Ln.
Todd Michael Haight, 46, entered the plea Thursday before McKean County Court President Judge John Pavlock.
Haight remains free on $10,000 (unsecured) bail pending his sentencing set for Jan. 9 in county court.
