The Kane All Sports Boosters Club held their 2013 award cCeremony on Wednesday night in the Kane High School Auditorium.
Despite a gloomy local economy, Kane area residents have reached in their pockets to aid 19 non-profit organizations that improve the quality of life.
MT. JEWETT â€“ Lisa Forsyth, a native of Mt. Jewett, has been recently promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army.
Lewis I. Stidd, 86, of 13 Phillips St., Mt. Jewett, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Guffy, he was a son ofÂ the late Irvin and Mildred Pair Stidd.Â On June 24, 1989, in Mt. Jewett, he married Mary Lou Swanson who survives.
While still in school, Lewis and several friends worked the ore boats on the lakes.Â After graduation, he joined the Army, spending one year in Italy. After the war, he worked in several of the area oil fields.Â He and his best friend, John Anderson, later owned the Skyline at Lantz Corners for almost 30 years.
Wayne A. McClelland, 89, formerly of JoJo Road, Kane, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Kane, he was a son ofÂ the late Wayne and Esther Silvis McClelland.
Mr. McClelland was employed by National Fuel Gas Co. from which he retired after many years. He was a lifetime member ofÂ the VFW Lodge #1132 and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge # 566 and had recently received his 50-year pin.
Wayne served his country during World War II.
The Kane Lady Wolvesâ€™ softball team had their season come to a disappointing end earlier this week when they lost a marathon 12-inning contest with the Port Allegany Lady Gators in the first round of the PIAA Class A playoffs.
Write-in votes have had an a major impact on the primary election results in the Kane area.
SHIPPENSBURG â€“ Kaneâ€™s Morgan Nicholson threw the javelin 132â€™ 10â€ť during Saturdayâ€™s PIAA AA Championship Meet at Shippensburg University. The throw placed the Lady Wolvesâ€™ junior fourth in the state and earned her a medal. Nicholson also competed in the shot put, which was held immediately after the javelin on Saturday.
A large crowd estimated at 200 attended the Memorial Day program held Monday at Evergreen Park in Kane.
LUDLOW â€“ A large crowd turned out Monday for the traditional Memorial Day program at the Gibbs Hill Cemetery near Ludlow.
