Louise P. Nelson, 83, of 621 Tionesta Ave., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane after a lengthy illness.
Born June 18, 1929, in Kane, she was a daughter ofÂ the late Lawrence and Margaret Austin Porter.Â On Dec. 31, 1947, in Kane, she married Leonard K. Nelson Sr., who survives.
Mrs. Nelson, a graduate of Kane High School class of 1947,Â retired in 1987 after 35 years at Stackpole Carbon Co. in Kane and St. Marys.Â Prior to that, she had been employed at Gillotti's Grocery and the Kane Shirt Factory.
The Highland Township Water and Sewer Authority decided at their regular monthly meeting to seek the help of an outside organization to stop a proposed injection well. Regular authority business was taken care of in a matter of minutes but the meeting lasted nearly 90 minutes with the majority being a teleconference call with Ben Price of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund [CELDF].

In part 11 of my Alaskan adventure series, I was in southwestern Alaska in Katmai National Park, just yards from seeing my first brown bears. The bear watching came to a quick halt as a fishing bald eagle put on show only feet from where I stood. Getting that close to a hunting bald eagle, and capturing a great image, made me forget for a moment why I came to this magnificent park, to see and photograph North Americaâ€™s top predator, the Alaskan brown bear.

Michela E. Carlson, 85, of 6 East Sycamore Place, Lewisburg, formerly of Kane, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Riverwoods Nursing Home in Lewisburg.
Born April 13, 1927, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Rose Montour Bonadio. On Sept. 14, 1948, in Kane, she married Carl "Bob" Carlson who survives.
Mrs. Carlson, a 1944 graduate of Kane High School, was employed as a dental assistant until retirement in 1974.
Persons are violating Kane borough ordinances by illegally dumping furniture, carpeting and other junk at the site of the trash recycling bins at Glenwood Park on Hacker Street.
Rodger, a basset hound owned by Cindy and Joe Parker, stopped by to visit the McKean County SPCA tree at Friendsâ€™ Memorial Public Library to drop off his donation.Â The public is invited to select an ornament from the tree.Â Each ornament has a picture of dogs and cats available for adoption, and suggestions for donation items for the SPCA.
