The Kane-based Allegheny Defense Project and the Sierra Club plan to continue their fight against drilling for gas and oil in the Allegheny National Forest.
Ronald J. Francis, 75, of 81 East Main St., Mt. Jewett, and also 985 Valencia Estates, Lakeland, Fla, died Saturday evening, Sept. 28, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.
He was born in Erie on Jan. 18, 1938, the son of the late Clarence and Ann (Zelinski) Francis. He graduated from Academy High School in Erie in 1956 and was employed at Hammermill International Paper for 42 1/2 years.Â He also had owned and operated the Instant Heartburn Sausage Trailer for many years.
Riley Austin (left), son of Bev and Scott Austin of Kane, is the Homecoming King at Kane High School. The king was announced Saturday at the Homecoming Dance at the high school. Ellie Tunall (right), daughter of Mary and Steve Tunall of Kane, is the Homecoming Queen. The queen was announced Friday at halftime of the Homecoming football game. Both king and queen are seniors at Kane High School.
Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the Kane School District, has lost yet another battle in her lengthy federal case in U.S. District Court in Erie.

The Kane Wolves dominated Friday nightâ€™s game with Curwensville on both sides of the ball, winning the battle of 4-0 AML South teams by a score of 42-8. The Wolvesâ€™ defense, led by senior lineman Evan Delong, forced four turnovers and the Wolves offense scored early and often against the visiting Golden Tide.
Ellie Tunall was crowned Kane's 2013 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the Wolves' 42-8 win over Curwensville. Tunall, the daughter of Steve and Mary Tunall, is pictured with her escort, Austin Woolcock.
For the second year, the "open house" program at Kane High School will feature a "College and Career Fair."
About 35 colleges, businesses, military services and other organizations will have designated booths in the school gymnasium.
Jamie Nowalk has received the "Rising Senior" award from the Kane High School Alumni Memorial Fund.
The $1,000 award is given annually to a college senior who previously received an Alumni Memorial Fund Scholarship at high school commencement.
Robert L. Fiscus, 68, of 415 Haines St., Kane, died Thursday evening, Sept. 26, 2013 in the Kane Community Hospital Emergency Room.
Born Oct. 25, 1944 in Kane, he was the son of Braden E. and Martha E. Marshall Fiscus Sr.Â On Nov. 9, 1974 in Kane, he married Donna L. Bizzak, who survives.
Mr. Fiscus worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Sheffield for many years, then for Kane Manufacturing for 27 years.
He was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
