Wolves fall to Cardinals in regular season finale

The Kane boys’ basketball team closed out the regular season on Monday night by hosting DuBois Central Catholic. The Cardinals, one of the top ranked teams in District 9, had narrowly defeated the Wolves on their home court, 49-43, back on Jan. 31.
Monday night’s game was not as close, as the visitors outscored the Wolves 19-5 to end the first half and 15-3 to finish out the game on their way to posting the 53-32 win.

Friends' Memorial Public Library's Soup & Pie Lunch

Longtime contributors to Friends' Memorial Public Library's Soup & Pie Lunch include Carol and Tom Niklaus (pictured), Ann Pierotti, and Pudge Pierotti. They, along with some 50 Kane area residents are once again preparing soup, pies and baked goods for the luncheon which will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library on Chase Street in Kane. All are invited to attend.

Longtime county planner to retire next month

SMETHPORT – For over 26 years, Deborah L. Lunden has played a major role in the development of McKean County as the director of the county Planning Commission.
She has worked with federal, state, county and local officials-- as well as county residents-- to make McKean County a better place to live and work.

Lady Wolves rally to beat Tide on Senior Rec Night

The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team sent Kelsey Johnson and Katelyn Moran, the team’s two seniors, out on a high note with a come-from-behind 47-36 win over the Curwensville Golden Tide on Friday night. The Kane crowd honored the two seniors and their parents prior to tip-off in the final girls game of the season in the Wolves’ Den.

Rehearsals are underway for high school musical

Rehearsals are underway for "Bye Bye Birdie"-- the Kane High School musical to be presented next month.
Evening performances at 7 p.m. are planned for Thursday, March 20, Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22. A matinee is planned for Sunday, March 23 at 2 p.m.

Wolves dominate Rams as Brown gets 100th win

The Kane Wolves wrestling team dominated the visiting Johnsonburg Rams on Thursday night, shutting out their Elk County neighbors by a 76-0 score. Kane took advantage of six forfeits and won six of the seven matches wrestled via pin.

Roger Crate II

Roger Crate II, 24, of 24 Chestnut St., Mt. Jewett, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at his residence.
Born Jan. 14, 1990, in Titusville, he was a son of Roger Crate and Laura Boedecker Conner.
Roger had been employed by Bradybaugh Logging and Sluga Logging.

Richard A. Arthurs

Richard A. Arthurs, 54, of 2666 Campbelltown Rd., died Wednesday, Feb, 5, 2014 at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh.
Born March 16, 1959, in Kane, he was a son of  the late Stanley and Anna Lou Lilley Arthurs.
Mr. Arthurs resided in Hazel Hurst until his later years when he moved to the Mt. Jewett area. He had been employed at the McKean County Landfill until he became ill.

Case against driver in 6-fatality crash heads to court

The criminal case against a Kane woman linked with a horrific six-fatality crash Aug. 31 is headed to McKean County Court.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman "bound over" the charges to county court Wednesday following an intense three-hour preliminary hearing in his courtroom.
