Both Tornado teams shutout Bolivar-Richburg

The Kane Tornado Pony and Pee Wee teams traveled north last Saturday to take on the Bolivar-Richburg Wolverines. The Kane Ponies rebounded from last week’s loss to Coudersport with a 6-0 win over the Wolverines. The Kane Pee Wees ran their winning streak to four with a convincing 18-0 win over the hosts.
Kane’s Harley Morris provided the only points in the pony game on a tough run into the end zone. The Tornado defense did the rest, preventing the Wolverines from crossing the goal line all game.

Ramettes roar back to topple Lady Wolves, 3-1

JOHNSONBURG – Despite an early one-set deficit, the Johnsonburg Ramettes roared back Thursday night to take a 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19) win over visiting Kane.
"I think we need to build on this win," Johnsonburg head varsity volleyball coach Bill Shuey said following the win which pushes his team's record to 2-3. "We showed that we don't quit. Kane really had the momentum and were doing some good things but we were able to fight back. We kept fighting and we have to keep doing that as we move on.

Panel begins work to update county solid waste plan

SMETHPORT – Work is underway to update the McKean County Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan.
The 11-member county Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) held its first meeting Wednesday evening at the county 911 Emergency Communications Center on Route 6 near Smethport.

Debriefing allows for input on shooting hoax

Rumors and conspiracy theorists ideas have run rampant over the school shooting hoax which took place at St. Marys Area High School on Sept. 2.
When contacted Wednesday for follow-up details on the hoax, which prompted a massive police response from Elk, Clearfield and McKean counties, St. Marys Chief of Police Todd Caltagarone said no new information was available.
Caltagarone reconfirmed the identity of the caller as a nine-year-old juvenile who will not face criminal charges.

Kane girls lose 5-1 to tough West Forest team

The Kane girls’ soccer team hosted an experienced West Forest Fires team on Wednesday and ended up on the short end of a 5-1 score. The Fire, who list 10 seniors and six juniors on their 26-player roster, scored their first goal less than two minutes after kickoff when striker Samantha Dubrawka found the back of the net.

Wolves hit the road to take on Gators

The Kane Wolves football team will travel to Port Allegany on Friday to take on the 0-3 Gators. Coach Justin Bienkowski has had a tough start to his inaugural season at the helm of the Gators. Each of the three teams that the Gators have played thus far have a 3-0 record.
The Gators lost 49-16 to Curwensville in week one of the 2014 season. Junior Jordan Seefeldt ran for two touchdowns against the Tide and completed eight of 17 passes for 51 yards. In the week two 39-0 loss to Elk County Catholic, the Gators finished with only 29 yards in total offense.

Kane cross country team splits with ECC, Brockway

The Kane Cross Country team lost to Elk County Catholic but defeated Brockway on the Wolves course on a beautiful, sunny afternoon on Tuesday. ECC’s Drew Bille crossed the finish line in 17:29.36 to set the pace, followed by two Crusader teammates, Matthew Dippold (17:47.07) and Logan Hoffman (18:04.56). Kane sophomore Hunter Yasurek followed the trio, completing his home course in 18:50.84, followed by Brockway’s first runner, Dakota Lawton in 18:57.28.

Lady Elkers Defeat Lady Wolves in Five Sets

The Ridgway Lady Elkers won the first game of Tuesday’s volleyball match in Kane rather handily, 25-11. The rest of the match wasn’t so easy as the two teams battled back and forth in a five set marathon before the visitors won by a score of 25-11, 23-25, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-13.

Strong second half propels Dutch past Kane

It was a tale of two halves for the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen in their match against the Kane Wolves on Tuesday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field. After being tied 2-all at the break, St. Marys scored seven goals in the second half to win 9-4.
