Suspended school teacher Gibbs returns to work

"I'm back in the saddle."
This is how suspended teacher Jeff Gibbs described his enthusiastic return to the classroom Monday at Kane High School.
He wore a wide grin Monday and appeared to be elated now that he is teaching again after a 10-day suspension at the start of the school year. 

School year off to a smooth start-- or is it?

Hamilton supervisors buy 'boom' mower

LUDLOW – Hamilton Township no longer will need to hire an outside contractor to mow steep banks along township roads.
Acting at a meeting Monday, the Hamilton Township Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to purchase its own tractor and "boom" mower.

2-day festival set at Kinzua Bridge State Park

MT. JEWETT – The annual two-day Fall Festival at the Kinzua Bridge State Park will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22.
The non-profit Kinzua Bridge Foundation sponsors the festival to promote the park. There is no admission charge.

Man with Kane connection seeks world record

Kurt Steiner’s right arm may be a little sore today.
But the pain will be well worth it if he regains a Guinness world record for skipping stones.
Steiner tried to establish the record Friday by skipping smooth Lake Erie beach stones on the Allegheny Reservoir near the mouth of Kinzua Creek at Red Bridge.

Wolves roll over Gators in home opener

For the second straight week, the Kane Wolves were balanced on offense and used a smothering defense to overwhelm their opponents. Last night, in the season opener at Paul R Miller Stadium, the Wolves rolled over the Port Allegany Gators by a score of 54-0. Kane jumped out to a big 34-0 lead at the half and never looked back.

2 young victims of horrific crash are laid to rest

Two young victims of a horrific traffic accident were laid to rest Thursday following a teary-eyed funeral service at St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane.
Jarrett Costanzo, 6, of Kane and his 12-year-old cousin, Olivia Douglas of Eldred and formerly of Kane were two of six killed Saturday in a two-vehicle accident on Route 219 just north of Lantz Corners.

'Meth lab' suspected at Mt. Jewett residence

MT. JEWETT – Clad in protective suits and wearing masks attached to air tanks, law enforcement agents looked for evidence Thursday night at a suspected "meth lab" in a Mt. Jewett residence.
It was an eerie scene as the State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team (CLRT) donned their equipment to enter the residence at 41 Anderson St. at Oberg Avenue in Mt. Jewett.

Wolves ready to take on Gators in home opener

The Kane Wolves football team soundly defeated the Sheffield Wolverines last Saturday afternoon, showcasing a well-rounded offense and a tenacious defense on their way to posting a 34-6 win. Their opponent this week will be the Port Allegany Gators, last year’s District 9 A Champions and a PIAA state semifinalist.
