Last yearâ€™s PIAA runner-up Johnsonburg showed Friday nightâ€™s crowd in the Wolves Den that the 2014 version is a darn good team. The Rams ran out to a big lead early and rolled to a 69-30 win.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Kane Lady Wolves squandered an early 12-point lead Friday night and allowed the Ramettes to get back into the swing of things by halftime but a resilient Kane squad regrouped with a key run in the third quarter to clinch a 47-38 road win in Paper City.
"We are quick and we have a lot of speed but sometimes it's just not under control," said Kane head varsity girls basketball coach Dave Kiehl following the win. "That's what happens, some turnovers and defensive lapses and [Kocjancic] had a decent amount of her points during that spread so that's what was killing us."
Linda Kay Wolbert, 71, of Shippenville, died on Friday morning, Jan. 3, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.â€¨Linda was born on Dec. 17, 1942 in Kane, to the late Virgil and Ernestine Hallberg.
She was the beloved wife of Francis J. Wolbert Sr., with whom she was married to for 51 years.
Linda retired from the Marienville Pharmacy. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, and shopping with her granddaughters.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Today's frigid temperatures are just a "pre-game warmup" for a "deep freeze" coming next week.
"Some of the coldest air in the last 20 years will be spreading over the Kane area," John LaCorte said Thursday.

Evelyn M. "Susie" Lantz, 87, formerly of West Kane and Oberg Avenue in Mt. Jewett, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 1, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane, where she was a resident.
Born July 10, 1926 in Kane, she was the daughter of Ira Raymond and Alma W. Anderson Sloan.Â On Oct. 18, 1952 in West Kane, she married Carl E. Lantz, who died Feb. 1, 2012.
Susie was a beautician for over 50 yearsÂ with herÂ shop in her home, and owned and operated the Kane Motel with her husband for several years.
