Wolves top Crusaders, advance to play Clarion

ST. MARYS – The Kane Wolves got redemption for a loss earlier in the season to Elk County Catholic on Saturday night at Dutch Country Stadium. Although the Wolves outplayed the Crusaders back on Oct. 17 at Paul R Miller Stadium, the boys from Elk County spoiled Kane’s Senior Recognition night by capitalizing on Wolves’ turnovers and squeaking out a 13-12 win. The Wolves won the battle of the turnovers on Saturday night and dominated from start to finish as they won convincingly 39-0.

Robert L. Gerhart

Robert L. Gerhart, 84, formerly of 525 Greeves St., Kane, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 9, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he resided.
Born March 24, 1930 in Kane, he was the son of Louis and Sara Heasley Gerhart. On June 8, 1957 in Kane, he married Edythe Swedenjelm, who survives.
Mr. Gerhart worked in the paint line at Stackpole Corp. in Kane for many years. He was a C.B. Radio enthusiast, going by the handle "Ringo"; enjoyed drawing and woodworking, and was a music aficionado, with the Beatles being his favorite.

Dedication of Hamilton Twp. vets’ memorial is set Tuesday

LUDLOW – The new Veterans Memorial for Hamilton Township will be dedicated Tuesday—Veterans’ Day.
The public is welcome to attend the ceremony, which is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the monument site near the back gate of Wildcat Park. There is limited parking near the gate on Wetmore Road just east of Ludlow.

Wildcat Park dam removed

In October, the McKean County Conservation District, partnering with Wildcat Park, the Ohio River Basin Fish Habitat Partnership, PA DEP, and the PA Fish & Boat Commission, removed the dam on Twomile Run in Wildcat Park near Ludlow. Funding for the project was provided through grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Patagonia.

3 fire companies battle Kane house fire

A Kane family was displaced when a fire damaged their home on Friday afternoon. The structure fire occurred at the 432 North Tionesta Ave. home owned by Holly Gausman. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The Kane Volunteer Fire Department and Kane Ambulance were called to the scene at 12:12 p.m. Friday and KVFD Chief Tim Holt said heavy smoke was visible to the first emergency personnel on the scene. KVFD engines 56 and 57 responded, as did the department’s tower truck, rescue truck and utility truck 54.

Dinner to benefit Ludlow man with heart transplant

Medical bills are piling up for a Ludlow man who underwent a heart transplant 11 years ago at the age of 40.
Jay Depto of Bliss Hill Road near Ludlow has since been diagnosed with cancer and is currently a patient in a Pittsburgh hospital.
A Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner will be held this weekend to help defray the cost of medical treatment for the 51-year-old man.
The dinner will be held Saturday and Sunday in the social hall at St. Callistus Catholic Church on Chase Street at Haines Street. 

Kane man, charged in knife threat, faces trial

SMETHPORT – A Kane man accused of threatening a woman with a knife is facing a jury trial in January.
Jared Michael Smith, 28, of 423 Poplar St., Kane, appeared Thursday in McKean County Court for his scheduled last day to enter a plea in the criminal case.
His attorney-- Assistant Public Defender Dennis Luttenauer of Kane-- advised President Court Judge John Pavlock to "list" the case "for trial."
The judge listed the case as a "backup trial" that could take place Jan. 26, Jan. 27 or Jan. 28.

Removal of demolition debris continues in Kane

The removal of demolition debris is continuing at the site of a former fire-damaged building at 318 Chase St. in Kane.
Steve Dyne Excavating of Wetmore Township is donating manpower and equipment for the demolition of the building. 
The structure was heavily damaged in a fire Oct. 29, 2005 that destroyed the adjacent Papa Nick's Restaurant at Chase and Bayard streets.

ID theft case is postponed in county court

SMETHPORT – A former Kane woman charged with identity theft has been given two more weeks to enter a plea in McKean County Court.
Aimee Carol Anderson Hodgdon, 41, is accused of using the identity of 86-year-old Mabel Johnson of Wetmore Township to fraudulently obtain a credit card. The defendant allegedly used the credit card to make cash withdrawals at Hamlin Bank in Kane and purchases at the Family Dollar and Dollar General stores in Kane.

Wolves look to avenge one-point loss to ECC

The Kane Wolves are looking to avenge a late season 13-12 loss to Elk County Catholic when they take on the Crusaders Saturday night in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Wolves enter the postseason with a 6-3 record and are the sixth seed while the third-seeded Crusaders come into the playoffs sporting a 7-2 record.
