The Kane Wolves wrestling team will take part in the Salamanca Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The team, pictured here after placing second at last weekend's North East Tournament, is now 10-1 on the season after Tuesday's 75-0 win at Bradford.
BYRNEDALE â€“ A trophy bull elk was found dead earlier this month on Pennsylvaniaâ€™s elk range, the apparent victim of winter wildlife feeding, which is illegal for elk. Deer and elk are among the animals that can die if grains suddenly become part of their diets.
Ellen T. Bifano, 94, of 100 High Point Dr., and previously of 330 Bayard St., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born June 19, 1919, in Kane, she was a daughter ofÂ the late Leo and Antonio Emer Tornatela.Â On Nov. 26, 1947, in Kane, she married Frank "Bud" Bifano who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bifano, a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church, had been employed at Stackpole Carbon before her retirement.
MT. JEWETT â€“ The first in a series of public forums on the operation of the Mt. Jewett Police Department took place Wednesday at the borough building.

A new date will be set for a preliminary hearing for the alleged drug-influenced driver in a six-fatality traffic accident last Aug. 31 near Lantz Corners.
The hearing for Kathleen S. "Kathy" Douglas, 37, of Kane had been scheduled for Monday before Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman.
The hearing will not be held as scheduled, it was learned Wednesday. A new date is pending.
RIDGWAY â€“ The PHARE fund appears to be gaining its footing as Marcellus Shale regions are seeing yearly allocations for local distribution.
In 2012, the base allocation for PHARE [Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement] was $2.5 million; for 2013 and beyond, the allocation has doubled.
Gary Ziegler's retirement from the Kane School Board didn't last long.
Ziegler served on the board for 12 years before deciding not to seek re-election last year. His term ended Nov. 30.

In the history of Kane High School, there have been numerous state champions in individual sporting events. Kane High has produced a state champion wrestler and champions too numerous to count in track and field, but only once in their history has Kane High School won a state championship in a team sport.
