Wolves baseball team wins thriller at Curwensville

The Kane Wolves’ baseball team evened their record at 1-1 on the season with a thrilling 5-4 win Saturday afternoon over the Golden Tide in Curwensville.
After losing 11-7 to Eisenhower in the season opener, Kane coach Bruce Kumher’s Wolves came together on a perfect afternoon for baseball. Junior Jake Lister pitched a complete game, going all seven innings and striking out seven while walking five.

Dance team excels at Pittsburgh competition

Nikky’s Dance Studio Competition Team from Smethport attended Starbound National Talent Competition this weekend in Pittsburgh.
The team received platinum and high gold scores for their dancing, they also received five first-place overall awards.  Special Judges Choice Awards were given to Classic (Now That’s Entertainment), My Boyfriend’s Back (Super Synchronized), and Dear Mr. Jesus (Clean Choreography).

Foradora looking for Supreme Court nod

RIDGWAY – Jefferson County President Judge John Foradora, seeking one of three available seats on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, recently made a campaign stop in Ridgway and spoke with local philanthropist Denny Heindl on "Talk of the Town," broadcasted on WDDH-FM The Hound.

Decker's Chapel topic of interest at historical society dinner

RIDGWAY – The future of Decker’s Chapel was the main issue addressed at Saturday’s 51st annual dinner for the Elk County Historical Society, which was held at The Royal Inn in Ridgway.
Elk County Historical Society Executive Director Mary Kalinowski spoke briefly about the status of the Decker’s Chapel during the dinner.
According to Kalinowski, drainage issues at the chapel have caused the foundation to start to crumble, which has caused the historical society to close the chapel to make sure that no one goes inside to make the foundation any worse or to get hurt.

Young Lady Wolves place sixth at invite

The young Kane girls track and field team hosted the annual Kane Invitational on Saturday and turned in a number of solid performances, according to head coach Jim Sirianni. On a team with no senior runners, juniors Sydney Dyne and Raejonna Pascarella are the veterans on the track and both turned in good times despite having limited training time due to nagging injuries. Dyne captured third in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 64.02, while Pascarella was close behind in 65.78, also a PR.

Boys track team wins Kane Invitational

The Kane boys track team placed in 11 of 18 events, scoring 69 team points, outdistancing runner-up Elk County Catholic (47 points) for the AA title in the 22nd Annual Kane Invitational Track and Field Meet at Paul R. Miller Stadium this past Saturday.  
Kane was led on the track once again by Hunter Yasurek, Clay Colson and Joey Newton. Yasurek placed second in a loaded field in both the open 400 (53.70) and the 800 (2:06.24). Hunter also came back and  anchored our 1600 relay team, with a split time of 53.4, which posted a third place finish in a respectable time of 3:43.

Kane residents bark about dog feces on their property

With the advent of milder temperatures, more Kane dog-owners now are walking their dogs around town.
Most dog-owners are considerate of their neighbors and clean up feces left by their dogs. They scoop up the droppings, place them in a plastic bag and continue to walk their dogs.
Some dog-owners, however, simply let their dogs do their business along the sidewalk and leave without picking up the mess.

Family Drive-In is ready to open Friday night

The Family Drive-In on Route 6 just east of Kane will open for the season Friday with the showing of two youth-appropriate movies-- "Home" and "Cinderella."
The Lowell Watts family of Kane is the new owner of the drive-in, which closed just after the start of the season last year due to the sudden death of previous owner Fred Holmes.
"I can't wait," Watts said in looking forward to the opening of the drive-in. "We're finally ready to show movies."

Kane trap teams defeat South St. Marys

The Kane High trap team hosted South St. Marys on Thursday in a rematch of last season’s league finals. The Kane squad improved to 4-0 on the season with a 131-126 win over the visitors at the Kane Fish and Game Club.
Ricky Grundstrom led the hosts, carding a score of 24 out of 25 targets, an impressive feat considering the windy conditions. Grundstrom just edged out teammates Justin Lorenzo and Hunter Yasurek for top honors. The pair of Kane shooters were joined by South St Marys’ Tony Anders with rounds of 23.

With Saturday’s forecast calling for sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s, look for some record-setting performances at today’s Kane All Sports Boosters’ Invitational.
Some of the area’s premiere track and field athletes will take place in the tournament. Teams taking part in the event include Bradford, Warren, Allegany Limestone, Elk County Catholic, Coudersport, Franklinville, Keystone and Cranberry.
