Hale-Berry civil case is now set for Tuesday

BRADFORD – A civil case involving Mt. Jewett Police Chief Steve Hale and Mt. Jewett Councilwoman Linda Berry and her husband, Robert, now is scheduled to be heard Tuesday morning.
Bradford District Court Judge Dominic A. Cercone Jr. has been assigned to hear the case, which is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday in his courtroom. The proceedings are open to the public.
According to court documents, Hale is suing the Berrys for $12,000 in damages.
Hale claims in his civil suit that the house he purchased last year from the Berrys had pre-existing furnace problems.

Coudersport edges Kane at Tip-Off Tournament

JOHNSONBURG – A runaway defeat turned into a victory for Coudersport girls basketball Friday night.
Coudersport rallied from a 16-4 first-quarter deficit to take a 44-43 win over Kane at the Johnsonburg Tip-Off Tournament at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Emily Morey hit a short jumper with eight seconds left to put the Lady Falcons ahead. Kane had one final chance but could not get a fluent possession together and did not get a possible game-winning shot off in time.

Christopher J. McCormack

Christopher James McCormack, 40, of East End Avenue, Regent Square, Pittsburgh, and formerly of Mt. Jewett, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at the Allegheny General Hospital Transplant Unit in Pittsburgh.
Born April 29, 1974, in Kane, he was a son of Jim and Kittie Johnston McCormack. On July 27, 2002, in Key West, Fla., he married Miriam Kleman McCormack who survives.

911 Center implements Medical Priority System

SMETHPORT— The McKean County 911 Center has announced the implementation of the Medical Priority Dispatch System to better serve the citizens of McKean County in emergency situations.
The new system allows dispatchers to accurately assess each emergency call and identify life-threatening situations by automatically prompting dispatchers to ask a list of questions. When each question is answered, the system will then direct them to another question depending on the response, according to 911 Director Andrew Johnson.

'A Christmas Carol' opens tonight at Chapel

"A Christmas Carol"-- a one-man play by Brandon Meeks of Kane-- opens tonight at 8 p.m. at the Kane Memorial Chapel on Chestnut Street.
It will be the first of three performances featuring a trained actor, who has appeared in numerous plays.
He adapted his one-man play from the classic "A Christmas Carol" by author Charles Dickens. 
In the 90-minute play, Meeks portrays over 25 characters-- including Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, the ghosts of Jacob Marley, Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future and, of course, Scrooge.

Red Cross Blood Drive just misses its goal

The Red Cross Blood Drive held Monday in Kane just missed its goal for the visit.
The goal for the Red Cross Blood Drive at the First United Methodist Church was 44 units. A total of 43 units were donated.
A total of 48 area residents showed up to donate blood. However, five would-be donors were deferred for health reasons.
There were three first-time Blood Drive donors. They include Dennis DeMarte and Dan Koza of Kane and Jordan Barnard of Port Allegany.

D. Neal Meckley

D. Neal Meckley, 87, formerly of 121 Oak St., Kane, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Dec. 22, 1926 in Lamont, he was the son of Orvis S. and Mabel A. Asp Meckley. On Aug. 26, 1950 in Kane, he married Joann Jerman, who died Aug. 28 of this year.
Mr. Meckley served in the U.S. Army during WWII, discharged at the rank of sergeant.
He owned and operated Meckley's Feed Store in Kane, then was a supervisor at Houston Electronics in Kane until his retirement in 1986.

Christopher McCormack, 40, of Regent Square in Pittsburgh, formerly of Mt. Jewett, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett.

Wolves wrestlers lack numbers but have heart

The Kane Wrestling team had one of their best seasons in recent history last year, sending seven wrestlers to the AA Northwest Regional Wrestling tournament and having a PIAA Champion (Evan DeLong) and third-place state finisher (Cody Blankenship). Unfortunately for coach Mike Swartwood, only one of those regional qualifiers is returning this season, Austin Hulings. Swartwood has limited lineup options this year as he has only 11 wrestlers on the roster.

The Kane Wolves came into Tuesday night’s matchup with the Smethport Hubbers giving up six forfeits...
