JAMES CITY â€“ The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) heard adamant opposition Tuesday against a proposed "injection well" for the disposal of drilling fluids.
LANTZ CORNERS â€“ The McKean County Planning Commission met Tuesday and approved the consolidation of three parcels into one upon which will be built a Nittany Minit Mart. The parcels, owned by Tetons LLC, of Curtisville, will be leased by Nittany for a 25-year period, and is located near the intersection of Route 219 and Route 6 in Lantz Corners.
SMETHPORT â€“ The elective position of McKean County jury commissioner has been abolished as of Jan. 1, 2014.

SMETHPORT â€“ The Kane Lady Wolvesâ€™ basketball team opened the 2012-2013 season with a 54-28 win over the Smethport Lady Hubbers on Monday night. Both squads started out slowly with Kane leading 4-2 midway through the first quarter before the Lady Wolves turned it on and outscored the Hubs 10-3 in the final three minutes of the opening quarter.
HAZEL HURST â€“ The McKean County Planning Commission may be ready to act today to approve a proposed Nittany Minit Mart at Routes 6 and 219 at Lantz Corners, Hamlin Township.
Despite petitions calling for a time change, the Kane Borough Council voted 4-2 Monday to continue to hold its monthly meetings at 4 p.m.
The Kane boysâ€™ basketball teams opened their seasons on Friday night at the Keystone Tip-off Tournament. The Wolvesâ€™ junior varsity team began their season on a high note, defeating the host team by a score of 49-44. Jack Kocjancic led the young Wolves with 10 points, followed by Tyler Weidenhoff and Chris Udovich with eight points each and Andey Bundy with seven.
The Kane boys' junior varsity team placed second at the Keystone Tip-off Tournament held this past weekend. The Wolves defeated the Keystone Panthers 49-44 to earn a spot in the championship game where they lost to DuBois. Andy Bundy and Jack Kocjancic were selected to the All-tournament team.
With the Elk County sheriff's department reportedly facing a projected budget deficit of approximately $9,000 and the board of commissioners unwilling to cover the monetary figure, sheriff Jeffrey C. Krieg said Sunday night that he, along with chief deputy Theresa Merritt, will be working "until all this is settled."
